The augers have two cutting spurs and twin spirals for chip clearance and are often preferred by cabinetmakers. The chisel shank diameters on both Japanese and English types are either 13/16" (20.6mm) or 1.3/16" (30.2mm), depending on the size of the chisel, and the auger shank diameters vary with the size of the bit.
