Axminster MD2G Moisture Meter
This simple to use moisture meter has two hardened steel pins which are pushed into the wood (or inserted into small pre-drilled holes in the case of very hard woods) to obtain a reading of moisture content on the row of LEDs. The pins are protected by a cover when not in use. The size of the meter is 140 x 60 x 25mm and is supplied with a 9V battery.

Not bad but has shortcomings
"I have been using one of these with what appears to be quite accurate results for a couple of years now. However there are 2 flaws which mar this otherwise excellent meter.
Firstly, the on off switch is mounted on the front and proud of the body. This leads to accidental switch on if it is kept in a drawer etc. along with other things which can rub against it. Most annoying to find the battery flat just when you need it. The second problem is the body is not hermetically sealed and if your workshop gets cold and damp the dampness gets inside the meter and lo and behold all your wood suddenly reads high moisture content.(This is usually cured by a night in the airing cupboard) Overall if you can keep the meter in its own container in a dry environment it works admirably for little money."
