Axminster AW106PT2 Planer Thicknesser
A trade rated planer thicknesser with ground cast iron planing and thicknessing tables and an cast iron tilting fence. Being made of cast iron this is a very heavy machine and is an excellent choice for either the trade professional or the discerning home user. The combination of a three knife cutter block and the vibration-reducing mass of the machine results in a very clean finish to the work. The dust extraction hood is positioned underneath the table for surfacing and on top of the table, with both of the tables tilted out of the way, for thicknessing. The three knife cutter block is set using the gauge supplied, ensuring that each knife is set exactly to the block. For optimum setting both tables are fully adjustable and electrically interlocked to avoid accidental starting without the cutter guard in place. Two other features of note: 1. There are on/off switches on both ends of the machine, one for planing and one for thicknessing. 2. The cast iron fence can be positioned on either side of the table for left hand or right hand operation.

"Recently bought the cast iron fence to replace the original aluminium and its a great improvement. Solid and accurate - I can now get the best out of the planer. Plastic side piece damanged in transit but replaced next day by Axminster."

"I've been meaning to write this review for a while now - but didn't want to tempt fate.
I had a number of significant problems with the first machine. The motor burnt out, the chipbreaker wedges warped on first removal and couldn't be fitted back and the tables were out of alignment. Possibly a twisted frame.
What's really significant here is that at every step of the way I was able to take great comfort from the customer and technical support from Axminster. If components were faulty they sent new ones and ultimately after one return to base gave me a brand new machine.
I had the option of money back and upgrade but I loved the size and features of this machine and opted to try for another one - and I'm so glad I did.
It's a really wonderful machine - can't fault it in any way, and to the guys at Axminster thank you very much. From the people on the end of the phone to the guys who drop off the goods your service is INCREDIBLE!"

"Great machine. Had lots of trouble free use from it - other than the roller tensioning nuts have tended to loosen & needed to be refitted twice, but this was easily rectified.I'm still on the original blades and although they now need sharpening it still gives a great finish to both soft and hard woods.
I would recommend using this with a chippings extractor. "

"I have been running this machine for a few months now and I am mostly pleased with it. It is powerful and accurate and easy to set up. My only disappointment is in the build quality. I have had numerous nuts and bolts work loose, requiring investigation as to their origin and down time putting them back in. Overall I would recommend this machine"

"Exit roller on the thicknesser was too slack, causing sprockets to traverse out of line and the chain came off jambing the machine. APT staff very helpful in sending out C clips to pack the roller travers gap, new chain and bearing. Machine has now been set up and produces a great finish to hard and soft woods. Size of machine as given is when assembled. The packing crate will fit through single dooway. Very heavy though needing a dolly-truck and two people to move safely.
Recommend secure bolting to floor with brackets and sleeve bolts.
I have also fitted an electronic guage from Wixey for the thicknesser.
Overall very pleased with the machine despite the initial fault."
