Axminster Automatic Centre Punch Set

This unique set comprises three brass-bodied automatic centre punches, each with a different and useful function. Pressing the point of the punch onto the spot where you wish to make a mark 'fires' the spring mechanism inside the punch, leaving an indentation in the exact position required. The pressure required to 'fire' the punch, and therefore vary the size of indentation, is varied by turning a knurled adjuster on the top of the punch. Included in the set are (a) a standard automatic centre punch for general use, (b) a self-centring punch with a chamfered collar, designed to fit countersunk holes and therefore almost indispensable when marking out screw holes by transferring from one piece to another and (c) a carpenter's automatic centre punch with a self-centring collar and an extended point to pass through boards up to 25mm thick; it has a gentler spring force so it will mark rather than damage a wood or plaster surface. Most useful tools for accurately positioning all sorts or drilling and fixing holes. Each is 15mm diameter by 125 or 150mm long, machined from brass with hardened steel points and exceptionally well made.
