Axminster CT330 330mm Thicknesser
The CT330 is a robust machine with a slightly greater width capacity, a more powerful motor and longer tables than most of the similar models on the market. The planing block, which is powered by a 1,900W brush motor, is equipped with a pair of double-sided disposable blades which are simplicity itself to replace, just requiring the removal of the blade carrier with the spanner provided, the fitting of a new blade and the replacement of the carrier. No fiddly height setting is required. The planer block height is adjusted by a very precise control positioned conveniently on top of the machine and there is a scale on the front face for easy reference to the timber thickness. There are two other aids to controlling the timber thickness, one is a gauge on the front of the motor housing which indicates the depth of cut being taken. The other being a depth stop with presets (1/8", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1" & 1 1/4") for finished board thickness. In addition, the planing block unit is equipped with a lock which removes any chance of the height setting altering during the planing operation. Although the CT330 is fitted with increased length infeed and outfeed tables it is recommended that a suitable roller stand is used for long planks for both safety and accuracy of the work. Roller stands are detailed within the Machinery section. Dust collection is via a shroud fitted on the top of the block which is fitted with a 100mm diameter outlet for direct connection to a suitable chip collector. The CT330 is a well-built and substantial machine with plenty of power and some useful additional features which should appeal to the more serious user.

"Bought this last year (2006) and its proved its worth in my workshop. excellent features and leaves smooth finishes on the timber, a top quality machine."

"Very solid well built machine & extremely accurate. On a piece of timber a metre long I measured a difference in thickness of 100th of a millimeter. I dont think you can ask for more than that. Before purchase I agonised as to whether I should go for one of the big brand names but this machine is better specified than any other portable thicknesser that I have looked at & the bulid quility is top notch. One small thing that lets it down though, is the manual. Its pretty basic & doesn't. do this machine justice. So come on Axminster, lets have a revised manual of a quality to match the machine."

"Bought this machine last year, and although the blades provided are a little easily blunted by hardwoods, I cannot fault the machine. It is a joy to use, produces great results, and is really great value for the money. "

"Turns old boards into new. Works perfectly."

"Smooth finish but tables needed resetting for uniform thickness before use. Motor overheats after an hour or so of use and takes 5mins to cool, then runs for 5mins or so before overheating again. Blades warp with dust ingress between them and cutter block, and have to be cleaned out regularly to retain accuracy. The first few times we changed the knives, the bolts were damaged due to force needed to overcome thread-locking compound used during factory assembly. On balance a good machine for the small space it occupies in the workshop, but above problems are annoying. I expect the price will continue to be reduced."
