Axminster Aluminium & Nylon Friction Chuck

Axminster's own take on a traditional technique, our Friction Chuck makes damage free holding fruit and objects in the round quick simple and safe. Based around an aluminium body threaded for your lathe (T01, T02, T04M & T38 threads as standard), the chuck holds a replaceable nylon insert (100mm diameter x 60mm long) which you turn to your required profile for a snug firm grip. One nylon insert blank is supplied with the chuck but others are available for you to create your own tailor made friction chuck for your favourite fruit and other polished shapes which need the gentle but firm hold which this chuck will give you. Using a square ended scraper or a gouge of your preference turn a recess with a shallow taper to give your work a firm friction hold. A shallow taper gives the best hold but leaves you less leeway for your fit. A steep taper allows more variety of grip but reduces the amount of grip, so you need to decide what is best for you and create the profile accordingly. Additional nylon blanks are readily available for you to produce a range of sizes. Our Friction Chuck body can also be used to hold your own wooden insert when you prefer a wood to wood friction/jamb chuck for the job in hand providing a well made, secure mounting for your lathe.
