Axminster SIEG C4 Metal Bench Lathe
A compact lathe of very modern design with many convenient facilities, ideal for the enthusiastic model engineer or teaching environment. A very rigid cast iron bed with ground slideways gives a high level of precision. This model has a 1000w brushless high torque motor giving near silent running. Featuring as standard full electronic speed control with digital read out of spindle speed, touch screen control panel, cross and longitudinal power feed, quick lock tailstock and both metric and imperial thread cutting, ranging from 8-24 tpi or 0.25-3mm. Other features include a 4 way indexing tool post with 12mm tool shank capacity, transverse adjustment on the tailstock for taper turning and the rear splash guard. A 100mm 3 jaw chuck is supplied, the headstock spindle is through bored to 20mm diameter. There are many additional options available including a milling head to turn this machine into a very capable small all round machining centre. Suitable for bench mounting with perhaps the addition of the optional drip tray, or for independently mounting on the purpose built floor stand. We are sure this machine will please even the most discerning engineer.

An Excellent Lathe
"I was looking to buy a slightly bigger and more powerful lathe for model engineering work.
My first and previous lathe was a 7x12 (not a mini-lathe) - a good little lathe but with some limitations - especially the lack of T slots on the cross slide.
My initial thoughts were to go for the generic 918/920 type lathe (used to be distributed by Axminster), available from two UK sources and extremely popular in the USA (as popular as the "Mini" lathe over there) with much information published on many web sites for its capabilities and mods.
However, the name Sieg C4 now seems to be cropping up as a better alternative, although not (yet) as readily available.
The only real difference in favour of the 918/920 is its "Norton" type gear box for screw cutting. On the down side the 918/920 has a somewhat clunky belt/pulley change system for different spindle speeds, whereas the Sieg is fully electronic variable speed but with manual gear set up for different screw threads - (although access to the banjo in the headstock on the Sieg is very good).
The Sieg will also cut left hand threads by changing the position of one of the pinions, whereas the 918/920 lathe cannot do that - although there are mods posted to make a tumbler reverse - not an easy fix.
So I took the plunge and ordered the Sieg from APTC together with a face plate, clamping kit, lathe stand, "medium" QCTP, and a set of HSS 8mm lathe tools.
Before finally placing the order, I had several long and involved conversations with Axminster's technical advice department and I must say that their customer service and attitude was at all times courteous, friendly and all one could reasonably expect - a refreshing change today compared to many other companies.
The delivery and help in installation was faultless - the driver even telephoning to say he was on his way and e.t.a.
This is a heavy piece of kit and needs a fair bit of careful muscle to lift onto its stand if you do not have a hoist!"

Sieg C4
"As a professional Horologist I require a lathe accurate beyond the standard model making spec,I had some issues with the TIR on the first Sieg C4 new from the crate as supplied to ATC,but the entire lathe was replaced with no quibbles,
The service and support at ATC is second to none and I now have a C4 which with ER32 collets, also supplied, has a TIR at the collet chuck of less than .0005mm,and yes, I do mean mm.outstanding.
The features and construction on this lathe are second to none at this price, looks the business too.
With the addition of the soba tool post ,tool post stud needs modifiying, bit awkward unless you have a spare stud which I'm sure I would of been loaned if I'd thought to ask.
Also fitted with the milling attachment, another very accurate machine.
Oil drip tray a must and also very good quality.
Quality of service from all at ATC,priceless.
Many Thanks. "
