Very poor quality

The switch is in a bad place as I've turned it on accidentally several times. This is my second long neck as the first one went with a pop and bits of the internals hit me in the face, ( glad I was using safety specs ) now my second one has gone pop again after just turning it on, I bought new circuit board only to have the wrong one sent. Very dissatisfied

I’ve had several of these and, at one time, had 3 in regular use, but they have proven to be unreliable: I’ve had 2 strip their bevel gears, one was replaced, one went out of guarantee, another burned out its motor and was also replaced. So now I have 2 that work and I’m careful to only use them for very light jobs.
The idea is good: the long neck gets into tight places, however, the ventilation and the switch could be much better sited and the grinding disc would be better just a little bigger in diameter: say another centimeter. The machines look good but really aren’t up to the job; not even for occasional amateur use: too puny and not well made.
I just wish that one of the good firms like Dremel, Bosch or Makita, would do a similar long-necked mini angle grinder.
Perhaps Axminster could pick up that gauntlet…?

My favourite Tool

I purchased my unit back in 2000. I have used it on a regular basis since. I have used it for wood rubbing, metal cutting and the most use it has had is de-rusting all sorts of metal from metal garden equipment to rusty spinners. Yes it does run fairly hot, yes it is a bit noisy but touch wood it has never failed me. German engineering at its best. It is very reliable .

poor poor poor

First machine worked for a week of light use, went in for repair new motor and switch, repaired machine lasted an hour, New machine sent as a replacement, replacement lasted 20 minutes, it's clear that proxxon have cut corners on the motors in these new models, my friend has an old model that's still going strong after a couple of years sculpting wood, mine had light use and even that is an over exaggeration. Only thing that was great is axminsters good customer service. If proxxon get the motor side of things sorted I'd happily buy another

Not a tough toy

I have just broken my second grinder, and it was not being over used. The problem with these machines is they are too "mickey mouse". The concept is good but in practice they just keep breaking and so can't do the job you ask of them. If they run for more than 4-5 minutes at a time they making a popping sound and stop working and for a tool that costs over £100 this is not good enough.

If you do buy one then use sparingly as it's not up to the job in hand.
