Description

In Detail

The C4 vertical panel saw is a useful addition to any small or medium workshop where sheet material is regularly processed. Vertical operation makes handling of the sheets much easier as well as saving valuable floor space. The saw can be secured permanently to a wall or moved around with the aid of the optional wheels and either the fixed or the folding stand. It can also be transported in the back of a van for site use. The saw unit with its 44.5mm depth of cut and 1,600W motor is fixed to a mounting plate which slides up and down the two guide bars, supported by a spring recoil device. Vertical cuts are made by positioning the sheet in the correct position on the frame and moving the saw blade down through the sheet; horizontal cuts are made by rotating the saw unit through 90°, locking it in the correct vertical position and moving the sheet through the blade. Rollers on the lower rail ease the passage of the sheet through the saw and there are wheeled extensions available for the bottom rail to allow 2,440 x 1,220mm(8' x 4') sheets to be safely processed.

The saw comes fitted with a mid-way fence which makes the handling of narrower width boards much more convenient. The two horizontal timber supports on the mid-way fence are secured in place with quick release cam clamps which allow the supports to be removed in a few seconds when full depth sheets are to be cut. The mid-way fence is fitted with a precision stop for accurate repeat length cutting.

Other accessories available are: (a) a sliding dust extraction kit with a 6.5m hose which slides over the rollers at the top of the machine as the saw moves up and down, (b) a multiposition length stop which allows for up to eight pre-set lengths to be set and (c) a hold down bar with support fingers and non marring rollers for use when cutting thin materials such as Perspex.

A package consisting of the basic saw with the mid-way fence together with the fixed stand, wheel set and sliding dust kit is available at a small cost saving over the individual items. A fine toothed blade is now supplied as standard with the saw. An additional blade suitable for cutting non-ferrous materials is also available. When ordering this saw for shipment to offshore islands or overseas you must purchase the fixed stand (110074) to enable the item to be sent safely.

6 years on from last review its still worth every penny

I have to admit I didn't buy this from Axminster but I felt I had to extoll the virtues of the saw anyway. I have been after one of these for ages and couldn't justify the price tag I found one second hand on Ebay ....Now I have one I still believe its overpriced for what it is but that aside it will pay for itself in days if you have need to cut boards daily ....I used to get stuff cut at B&Q but they were always a little testy when I had five or six boards to cut. Today I ripped 8x4 ply into four pieces 6 sheets in about ten minutes followed by 3 sheets of 18 mdf into 600mm strips in about 5 minutes imagine how much measuring and marking you would have to do and then cut it with a straight line. Hours saved more time for drinking tea!.....The negative sides so far are not deal breakers just need some thinking about ...It is very dusty ...I have extraction on the dust port but it could do with a secondary port on the back of the saw channel ...its also very heavy ....It can be moved around the workshop on its wheels by a burly chappie but it isn't quite portable like the advert suggests ..I will not be putting it in my van anytime soon .....all said if you are a production type of woodwork business ...buy it NOW it will save you hours and personally I think my accuracy has improved

C4 delivers !

We had the C4 in the workshop for no more than 2 days - 1 to align and do some test cuts & get to know it and the second to "use it in anger".
After a minor mod to the mid fence stop, so we could cut 54mm strips, it produced 3 days worth of cutting (by ANY other means), very accurately in just one day. This will go down in history as the best 2 grand I've ever spent. Everyone, but everyone should have one of these baby's. Could not praise it enough, it will save me days and days of production time AND takes up no space. Brilliant machine, & very grateful to Axminster for having the foresight to stock it.
Brilliant. Did I say that already !!!
