Learn how to use basic woodworking tools on our one day Bird, Bee and Bat Boxes course. A great foundation course for anyone looking to embark on the woodworking journey. Be guided by your tutor through the basic woodworking hand tools; including marking out, cutting with handsaws, sharpening to size using hand planes and spokeshaves and how to mark out and measure. Use the tools and your newly learnt knowledge to create and construct a bird, bee or bat box. Take your finished decorative box home to display in your garden and create a perfect hollow for the environment!
Begin your day by choosing which box you will construct throughout the day; a bird, bee or bat box. Your tutor will then take you on a step-by-step guide on how to use basic woodworking tools. You will learn about measuring and marking tools, work holding tools, cutting using a handsaw and how to setup and use a hand plane. Following this, you will then learn how to use basic jointing methods to construct your decorative box.
Everything you need to make and complete your chosen box will be supplied, except the live test subjects!
Items you take home can change depending on the resources and materials available on the day.
You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown and review of the equipment you will be using.
This is a 'hands-on' course, each student being able to work at their own pace. The tutor will be able to demonstrate and explain the techniques to the group as a whole and individuals as required.
The minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours. If you would like to read our terms and conditions click here.
