Explore and learn about the scroll saw on our one day beginners course. Whether you’ve experience using a scroll saw or not your expert tutor will guide you on the machine. By the end of the course you will be able to use the machine to create patterns and projects.
Learn from your tutor how to find and prepare patterns, set up a scroll saw and how to choose blades. In addition, be guided by your tutor on how to use the scroll saw safely.
Throughout the day you will use your newly acquired knowledge to complete an array of projects. These include making small decorative ornaments, a small wooden puzzle and a fold-out, spiral cut bowl from a single piece of wood.
Items you take home can change depending on the resources and materials available on the day.
You will start your day with a welcome talk, including a hot drink, health and safety brief and a breakdown of the machines you will be using.
No woodwork or scroll saw experience is needed.
The minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours. If you would like to read our terms and conditions click here.
A most enriching experience!
I spent a fabulous week at the Axminster Tools training centre making a Windsor chair, although I am a keen woodworker, I learnt so much more on this course and was able to use tools of the highest quality and have tuition in their use. The tutors were excellent and extremely patient and helpful, not at all like being in an educational situation. I can highly recommend this course and the education centre, a most enriching experience.Roger T, Windsor Chair Course
Very pleased with the day
Attended this sharpening course with five other students! All had various tools to sharpen. Jason provided excellent tuition. Gave tuition on the various ways to sharpen tools. Lots of tips and tricks to obtain a sharp edge. Came away with my tools well sharpened. Very pleased with the day. Thanks to the Skill Centre staff for looking after us.Harold R, Tool Sharpening Training
