In Detail

These Stanley FatMax tapes really stand apart from others you may have seen. They have a huge standout of almost 4m making one person measuring a doddle, the 32mm wide tape means that the numbers are easy to read. The extra large 3 rivet end hook, which is 40% stronger than a 2 rivet hook construction, securely grabs on to all building materials, including rounded or odd shaped items. The hook has also been specially designed to grab on side, tip or bottom. Being Mylar® coated the blade is up to 10 times more resistant to abrasion than normal lacquered blades, the first 150mm also has a unique armour coating as this is where tapes suffer the most wear and tear. Classified as Class II accuracy, the true zero end hook moves to compensate for accurate inside and outside measurements. A heavy duty, slip resistant casing with easy-grip rubber moulding, patented airlock slide lock for easy locking and belt clip complete the deal. Available in a variety of lengths.

i have had, and used a lot of tapes over my career. i can confirm you wont find better tapes than these. yes they do extend to 4 metres which is extremely handy when your up a ladder or stood on scaffold or any awkward place. no other tape will come close to the reach out. yes they will fold in the wind.... but a lot less quicker than any other tape. as the architect before me says he gave his last tape a year of abuse and would prefer that? well im not sure if building and carpentry is quite as vigorous as an architects work but my fat max 8m has served me for well over 18 months now with no faults at all and still in great condition. worth the money for the stress you wont put yourself through with a cheap alternative.

waste of money

As an architect I rely on good tapes for measuring buildings, and thought that I was buying one of the best available, certainly one of the most expensive. I bought the 10m option, seduced by the fact that the tape will stand out for 4m, essential when measuring on one's own, BUT the tape is very flexible and will only stand out that far if you are very careful and there is no wind. To be honest, it is one of the poorest tapes I have ever had in this respect. I have decided to bannish it to the workshop and get something else. My last tape was the Axminster 8m tape which I eventually destroyed after a year of heavy use. I shall get another. I am tempted to complain to it is sold on the strength of it's rigidity, but fails on that score badly.
