Jason Breach, Axminster Skill Centre tutor and internationally acclaimed woodturner, will be joining us in store to demonstrate his incredible woodturning skills. Jason will also offer advice and tips, plus go through various techniques that can be applied to the art of woodturning. Jason is well known and highly respected within the woodturning community. He has carried out demonstrations all over the world and has built up a strong following in both the UK and Australia.
Having been involved with woodturning from an early age, the craft has played a huge part in Jason's life and continues to be his passion. One of his trademark skills is making turned boxes, believing that the natural grain and colour of the work should enhance the piece and not be hidden.
If you would like to see a master of woodturning at his craft, come along and watch Jason in action, and be inspired by some of his beautiful creations.
An added bonus is that FREE tea and coffee will be available.
Rodney Goodship and Denis Findlay from the Surrey Association of Woodturners will be in store demonstrating and answering questions on various woodturning techniques. Denis will be turning small birdhouse ornaments complete with a bird on a perch suitable for Christmas trees. Rodney will be turning a candle stick with a twist. If you would like to see two experienced woodturners in action or have a question for them, just pop into the store to watch and ask, and they will probably know the answer or be able to find it for you!

Mayzie Collins, our in-store scroll saw expert will be demonstrating various techniques of scroll sawing using the Axminster Trade Series EX-21 scroll saw.
She will run through the unique features of the EX-21, and explain the advantages of using different blades in different situations. Changing the blades of this scroll saw is quick and easy, allowing you to spend more time perfecting your scroll saw projects.
Throughout the day, Mayzie will be making four sleighs: two in the morning from 10am to12 noon and two in the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.
If you interested in learning about scroll saws and what you can achieve, or looking for a few tips and pointers, then why not pop into store and get hands-on.
Phil Irons is well known on both the UK and international woodturning scene.
He will be spending the day in store demonstrating tools from Woodcut, with whom he has a long association. His main focus will be on the Bowlsaver MAX3 - a tool which will enable you to get an increased output from a piece of wood. Phil will also be using Tru-Grind sharpening jigs and Pro-Forme hollowing tools.
By his own admission, Phil derives most pleasure and satisfaction from turning hollow forms. He has created some beautiful vases and incredible one-off masterpieces.
Phil also enjoys teaching and offers a number of courses at his workshop in Welford-on-Avon, Warwickshire. Courses range from beginners’ hobby level classes to the more advanced master classes on the lathe.

Colin Spain and Richard Davies from the Surrey Association of Woodturners will be with us in store, demonstrating Christmas projects you may like to get your teeth into. These two experienced woodturners will be using the Axminster Trade Series 1628VS and 1416VS lathes.
If you would like to get some new ideas for Christmas presents, be sure to attend this demonstration - handmade presents are always much appreciated and very rewarding for the maker/giver.
