I am a great fan of axminster and their tools, but I am shocked by this. When the trimming tool is clamped to its shaft it sits at a 20% angle as there is roughly a 1mm difference in diameter between the trimmer I/D and shaft. O/D This means when the (non central) grub screw is tightened the cutting head cants to an alarmi ..... well work I out for yourselves. Sorry, but at £25 I'm too blooming angry!!!

Tool works perfectly

Sorry to hear the previous two reviewers are having problems with this tool.

I have used it a lot now without any problems at all, perhaps it has been redesigned.

Whatever, the result is a tool that work well with no issues at all.

Second design flaw

Very disappointing. This trimmer looks good but has two serious design flaws, not expected with Axminster products. Firstly, with the 7 mm trimmer the brass tube is left proud of the wood and has to be trimmed level with the wood some other way. The second flaw is that the end of the "drill" that goes into the brass tube has a very agressive cutter. If this is not positioned exactly into the tube BEFORE starting the drill, it chews the end of the brass tube up. This tool is either going back, or into the waste bin. Sorry Axminster.

Design flaw

Overall this is a reasonable tool with a good 3/4" dia trimmer head. However, there is a serious design flaw. The 7mm shaft is parallel all the way up so that where it passes through the head there is a very small gap. This means that when trimming 7mm kits it trims the wood / acrylic a fraction lower than the brass tube. Hence the tube protrudes slightly from the body.

So long as you are aware of this you can trim the wood so that the trimmer head finishes just shy of the tube and then finish the trim with a sanding block.

The other shafts have a shoulder where the shaft changes to the 7mm dia that fits through the head. Hence the larger shafts butt up to the trimmer blades leaving no sneaky little gap to catch you out.

The answer is simple Axminster. Make the hole in the head 6mm instead of 7mm so that all the trimmer shafts have shoulders that fit over the blades.
