Description

In Detail

This 75mm wide router plane not only looks like its full-size counterpart, it works like it too. Comfortable to hold and manoeuvre, it is ideal for hardware installation, fine inlay or intarsia work. It comes with a 3.2mm wide A2 tool-steel blade (hardened to HRC 60-62), positioned inboard for standard use or outboard for true bullnose work. The carefully machined stainless steel body has a ground and lapped sole. The sole encircles the blade for maximum registration to a workpiece and to bridge recesses for stability on narrow stock. The knobs are Bubinga. A fine screw feed mechanism sets blade depth, whilst a knurled clamping knob secures the blade. Weight just 55g, supplied in an embossed, French-fitted presentation box.

Brilliant

I bought this tool in order to make a recess in ebony for an inlay panel. I was tempted to drill holes at the desired depth and chisel the rebate out but given the precision required for the project I sensibly looked into getting the proper tool. Given the size of the panel I thought I would need a bigger router but I realised that you could plane leaving support strips and then chisel out the strips afterwards. I decided therefore to go with the Veritas router because it was as big as I need and it has screw adjustment for blade depth which I feel is really a necessity for precision work.

I'm very glad I purchashed this tool, it made the job much easier and the result much more precise than it otherwise would have been. The screw adjustment allows the taking down of the wood in easy stages. It is a well made sturdy tool all round. It also has some weight to it for its size which is nice. My only gripe is that the blade required some attention in order to get it as sharp as I like. If you can get that mirror finish by using graded water stones (make sure the blade's sole remains square with an engineer's square), which is fiddly given the blade's size and shape, you can make the tool amazingly more precise and much less effort to push than it is when it comes out of the box.

A wonderful tool, highly recommend!

Beautiful

This such a handy router and a real joy to use for accurate inlay work. It more than paid for itself on just one cabinet that I made.

Perfection in miniature

I find this the perfect tool for setting small hinges. In my hobby of small box making, the hinge rebate final depth can be adjusted easily and accurately with this router after removing most of the waste by chisel. The sole registers well on narrow stock, where a larger tool would be difficult to control. As with all of the Veritas miniature tools, this router is great if you have a particular use for it but don't expect to be using it for deep, heavy cuts. It excels at the type of work for which it was intended.

Cute!

Cute it definitely is, but it is also a precision tool and very well made. I'm well impressed.
