Description

In Detail

With a ductile cast iron body accurately machined and ground flat to a high standard, the Veritas Router Plane is ideal for cutting dadoes and grooves or for cleaning out areas to a precise depth. Blade depth is set by a fine screw feed and a positive locking depth stop sets depth of cut. A spring-loaded collar holds the blade, allowing easy blade adjustment and removal. The knobs are positioned for comfort and control. Weight 900g (2 lb), base size 142 x 80mm.

Supplied with two high carbon steel cutters: a two-piece 12.7mm (1/2") straight forged blade, a two-piece 12.7mm (1/2") pointed blade (for final smoothing) and a blade sharpening jig.

The optional fence (available separately) which is made of stainless steel and aluminium can be positioned on either side of the plane and will work on both straight and curved pieces. In addition to using for dadoes or grooves, the router plane is the perfect tool for inlay or for cleaning out areas for hardware installation, where fine control is critical. If you would like to make a pair of custom handles, a hardware kit that includes two turned brass connectors, two hanger bolts, a hex bolt is available.

Hand planes forever!

The cost of used Router Planes on auction sites remains high so the step up to a new Veritas plane is not so significant and this is the second Veritas plane type I have purchased instead of an older used Stanley or Record. I would say that this plane has permanently changed my direction in woodwork towards using more hand tools. I now find myself reaching for this plane to do multitude of jobs that I would not have considered using a plane for. I am also re-evaluating what tools I use and I can see some of my excellent condition older planes being sold and replaced with Veritas versions. the quality of construction, machining and adjustment is superb and they have resulted in an overall improvement in the fit and finish of my woodworking joints. To most casual users, the improvements won't be immediately apparent but they are superb tools to use. My workshop is a quieter and more productive place without the screaming of power tools. Not selling the power tools completely but certainly using hand tools mostly now. A third Veritas plane is already on order, it probably won't be the last.

Hit the nail on the head

I need to find a tool that could help me do the works of inlay butterfly so I purchased Veritas router plane and also a 1/4 "blade.
I'm not a craftsman the woodworking is my hobby.
I must admit that with this planer I work much easier, faster, and not only for butterfly inlay but also for other jobs where you

need to make precise slot without having to use the electric router. I think you can better control the work with Veritas router

plane.
Working with the Veritas router plane is pleasant. Very compact shape, comfortable grip, perfect weight of the plane, ground sole

smooth and flat are features that allow you to control it really well, and if you cut small thicknesses at a time the plane flies over

the wood and slot remains very smooth.

The installation system, adjustment, and the lock blade is simple and intuitive in the operation. in less than one minute you can

change and adjust the blade perfectly.

I would have preferred having Veritas Optional Fence already included because it is a very useful item and it adds possibilities for

more interesting jobs.

I hoped I could to purchase the guide with the planer, but it was not available, I wanted to save money on shipping but It was out

stock. In my opinion It is useful and I'm going to buy it as soon as available.

The order and delivery where handled in a very accurate way by Axminster.
The overseas shipping with an excellent tracking just four days for Italy is something that a professional seller of Axminster can

give you.

It is a usefull tools and money well spent !!!!!!

Beautiful piece of Kit

As a hobbyist the Veritas router seemed a little expensive for the number of times I envisaged using it, but since delivery I have used it for tenon joint clean up, instead of my Festool router on tasks and for other work. It is a quality tool, easy to use and the fence is a real aid. I read the description incorrectly and ordered a 1/2 inch pointed blade only to find that there was one included with the router, I have returned this for a 1/4 straight blade. Customer services were very helpful in this process. Making a special box to keep it in.

Good router plane

This tool is beautifully made, feels good in the hand and is intuitive to use. It can accommodate both 1/4 and 1/2 inch blades and be used for routing in the field of the router for stability or, simply by removing the blade, rotating the attachment mechanism 180, and reinserting the blade facing to the outside of the tool, up against a surface. Adjustments are good and the depth stop is really useful. The fence is a little bit fiddly but it works ok. I did find the locking mechanism doesn't always hold the 1/4 inch cutter securely. I remedied this by tightening the knob, wiggling the cutter the check if secure and if not, tightening again. Sounds simple but it's a bit of a pain every time you increase the cutter depth. Otherwise a first rate tool.
