With a ductile cast iron body accurately machined and ground flat to a high standard, the Veritas Router Plane is ideal for cutting dadoes and grooves or for cleaning out areas to a precise depth. Blade depth is set by a fine screw feed and a positive locking depth stop sets depth of cut. A spring-loaded collar holds the blade, allowing easy blade adjustment and removal. The knobs are positioned for comfort and control. Includes two high carbon steel cutters: a two-piece 12.7mm (1/2") straight forged blade and a two-piece 12.7mm (1/2") pointed blade (for final smoothing). Weight 900g (2 lb), base size 142 x 80mm. The optional fence (available separately) which is made of stainless steel and aluminum can be positioned on either side of the plane and will work on both straight and curved pieces. In addition to using for dadoes or grooves, the router plane is the perfect tool for inlay or for cleaning out areas for hardware installation, where fine control is critical. If you would like to make a pair of custom handles, a hardware kit that includes two turned brass connectors, two hanger bolts, a hex bolt is available.

Good router planeThis tool is beautifully made, feels good in the hand and is intuitive to use. It can accommodate both 1/4 and 1/2 inch blades and be used for routing in the field of the router for stability or, simply by removing the blade, rotating the attachment mechanism 180, and reinserting the blade facing to the outside of the tool, up against a surface. Adjustments are good and the depth stop is really useful. The fence is a little bit fiddly but it works ok. I did find the locking mechanism doesn't always hold the 1/4 inch cutter securely. I remedied this by tightening the knob, wiggling the cutter the check if secure and if not, tightening again. Sounds simple but it's a bit of a pain every time you increase the cutter depth. Otherwise a first rate tool.

feeling dupedJust received this router plane as a fathers day present. As I didn't personally buy this I didn't read all the blurb and thought as you would that the side fence as plainly pictured came with the plane.

Couldn't be more pleasedHaving two Lie-Nielsen planes, I had trouble debating whether I should get one of their Router Planes or this Veritas one. What swung it for me was knowing I would have less trouble sharpening the (removable) Veritas blades than the Lie-Nielsen ones. There were no reviews for it on here until Chippy's review on the day mine arrived, so I was delighted to read his praise for this one over the L-N version. I can only comment on the Veritas one and I am absolutely delighted with it. It's beautifully made and is a complete joy to use. I love it.

Best version of the router planeA router plane is a useful tool to have even in a power tooled environment. This is miles better then the Lie Nielsen version.
