Made from aluminium alloy with brass fittings, the Transfer Scribe comes with a double ended steel guide pin. The pin has a pointed end for compass work and a rounded curved end for smooth scribing. The pin can be replaced with a pencil for double scribing. Fully adjustable from 0-300mm. Bi-directional level bubbles help guide the user and ensure the scribe is as accurate as possible. Any standard pencil can be used, the Transfer is supplied with an indelible pencil that marks well with only light pressure.

Simply brilliant solution to complex problemsThis scribe has provided the solution to accurate transfer of complex contours, too long and deep for a profile gauge. Moreover, when the upper and lower edges had different contours, this too could be negotiated.

Would be perfect if they were scaled down........I have been looking for the perfect scribing/spiling tool in vain for years. I started off by forging a blunt and offset leg on an old pair of compasses I found in a second-hand tool shop, then progressed through the circular and (by virtue) hopelessly inaccurate for small radii 'perfect butt' type of scribing tools, to the Easyscribe and back again. I have thought for a long time that the Veritas Transfer Scribe would be the answer but could never justify the price, so recently, with a couple of glasses of red egging me on, I finally pressed the Add to Cart button. Suffice it to say than when it duly arrived what seemed like minutes later (typical brilliant Axminster service) I was a teensy bit disappointed. It's beautifully made, in true Veritas fashion, but it's enormous too. I didn't remember it being advertised as the Veritas Transfer and Log Scribe (even though there's a photo of it being used to scribe a log!) but that's what it says on the box when it arrived, and that's what it's primarily designed to do - the scribing of Logs in American Log cabin construction. and for that I can see it would be brilliant as with a steady hand and an eye on the spirit levels they would be wonderfully accurate. I just wish Veritas made both a large pair (these ones) and a smaller, more dainty pair, as that is exactly what I would have gone for. So my old hand forged pair of compasses have not been consigned to the bin as they can adjust to a smaller gap than the Veritas ones. Nevertheless, for larger scribing operations and maybe the boat I keep promising to build for myself one day, these would be absolutely perfect.
