The Veritas Variable Angle Fence mounts onto the fence rods of the Veritas skew rebate or jack rebate planes. This variable angle fence locks firmly in position with brass collets. It will allow you to plane accurate and consistent angles anywhere between 45° and 135°. Set the fence using a square, a bevel, an angle gauge or directly on an angle you wish to match. The spring-loaded locking lever can be rotated out of the way if necessary. Through-holes in the fence allow you to attach a wooden sub-fence or tapered spacer for planing angles less than 45°. The fence is 275mm long made from aluminium and brass. Made in Canada.

Variable angle fence. Veritas Jack rabbet plane.Paid in excess of £50 for this fence as I needed to make some panel doors. I fitted some stock to lessen the angle still further and as recommended by Veritas. Unfortunately the bolt used to tighten the fence cannot create enough torque to secure the fence at the desired angle.....its just not man enough for the job and thus the angle widens with each stroke of the plane due to the lateral and inevitable downward force that will follow it. If it we me, I would have made the securing bar an octagonal to give varied pre-set angles as few jobs demand something in between that are beyond the skill of a cabinet maker to supply. At least that way you have a fence that holds its setting and is fit for most jobs. It's a shame. Veritas always seem to fall down on the application of detail. The handle of the Jack rabbet plane also works loose and a simple serrated washer would hold it, rather than have to apply about a hundred pounds torque to get the damn thing to remain solid. The plane itself is a dream but you don't pay nigh on £400 for such faults.
