Useful High Capacity Chuck for a Chinese Drill Press

I wouldn't describe this as a "super precision" chuck, it's really just standard Far-Eastern quality. When I saw it was "Golden Goose" brand, I knew what to expect. I tested it in my lathe headstock and there is some runout. It's not as good as my smaller &more expensive Rohm & Jacobs ones.

However it is very useful as a general purpose drill press chuck, as it copes with a very wide range of drill sizes (1 to 16 mm). I was looking to buy a proper Jacobs one, but the capacity they offer is only 3 to 16 mm.

If you have got a Chinese drill press, this chuck will be as accurate as the rest of the machine.

On receipt, I noticed that the body was drilled right through. I enlarged the hole, as this will provide a means of driving out the arbor, if necessary. It drilled quite easily, so the body does not appear to be hardened. Also, the chuck key fell apart, and I had to loctite the cross pin back into position.

Most things which I buy from places like Axminster require "fettling up" before use, and if only the Chinese could apply a bit of quality control, the products would be so much better!

Good replacement for keyless chuck

Only had this for a few days but it's working well with little run out. Lost a star on quality as the chuck key doesn't fit as well as I think it should for a super precision chuck.
I bought this because I eventually lost patience with the 'precision' 16mm 'keyless' chuck supplied with my Jet JDP-15 bench top drill. Having to use slip grip pliers or knocking out the MT2 taper to grip the tang in the vice, in order to release a drill, was extremely annoying.

Just replaced my keyless chuck with this one. The quality is just great, it looks and feels as if it should be double the price. Accurate, strong and with the key I won't have to use mole grips to loosen it which is what happened with the keyless chuck
