In Detail

Get the angles right every time when grinding a tool's bevel. The Axminster Sharpening Rest is suitable for most 150mm and 200mm bench grinders. The jig provides a wide stable platform on which to place the tool, it is supplied with a tool clamp that runs smoothly in a groove thus ensuring grinding is square and even. The unit can be moved back and forth on its base and with two pivot points, it is easily set to grind at almost any angle. Fix this jig onto the bench in front of the grinder and forget about the guesswork when trying to accurately reproduce a bevel angle. Takes blades up to 65mm wide.

Useless without instructions

Very disappointed as lack of instructions means I have not been able to use it. Why can't axminster put a user guide to download? Without this it is a waste of money.

cheap and cheerful

A shame there are no instructions or template. There is a little too much free play in mine where the tool blade holder moves left to right - about 1mm both sides maybe some tape will take the slack up. Also it would be good if there was a 90 degree locating pin behind the blade holder locking screws similar to the Veritas model - saves constant checking with a square. I wish now I had the Veritas one - otherwise a good idea and hopefully some use.

Nice Tool

All in all, this jig is pretty good value, and well-made. It's possible that the Veritas Jig is slightly superior - I 'm not sure, as I haven't tried it - but it's hard to imagine around twenty pounds of difference! It's a tad fiddly to set up, and if you don't have an engineering background, it may involve a bit of trial and error, as it's absolutely essential that the jig is square to the grinding wheel. It took me around 30 minutes to get it how I liked it, after which I tried it with a nasty, fiddly, little Stanley block plane iron, and got amazingly professional results. This is the first time I've dealt with this company, and I have to say that I'm impressed. Great product, amazing delivery!

Excellent product

Used it today, took very little time to set up with grinder and in no time had my chisels looking brand new without any nicks. Would highly recommend this product.

could be even better please :)

Very nice kit, feels solid, thick ali extrusion and nice bristol lever clamps.Overall good value for money. What would be nice are some instuctions! As a newbie I had no idea how to present the jig to the grinder, how to work out the setting to get a 25 degree angle and so on. The Veritas kit does seem to include all this?. Took some Googling and experimentation to get it set up so PDF instructions to download would be extremely useful please Axminster. Once started however it is a breeze.
