In Detail

These 250mm Button Jaws are so called because they use eight conical white rubber buttons to grip the work and pull it securely back against the aluminium jaw plates without damaging the edge. Although the rubber buttons are easy on the wood they are not really suitable for bowls with a very fine edge, these are better held in specially made wooden jaws mounted on the Axminster wood jaw plates. As well as the tapped holes there is a slot provided in each of the jaws which allows the position of the buttons to be finely adjusted to accommodate slightly irregular pieces. As an alternative to using the buttons, stacking turn studs are available as an optional extra. These are designed as a primary holding device for all manner of round or square blanks and giving a very secure holding method, they can be used singularly or doubled up using the longer bolts supplied. Both sets of jaws are supplied complete with buttons, with spare buttons available individually. For better access, a longer chuck key may be required when using button jaws. Recommended maximum speed 1,000rpm.

N.B. These are not suitable for the AWVSL1000 lathe.

Get the Long Chuck Key

You will damage your knuckles if you try to use the standard chuck key with these Button Jaws. You would be wise to get the long chuck key for another £19.73.

Fantastic Tool

I've used your 400 mm Button Jaw now for a couple of days and I am very satisfied.
There is only one problem. The long key for the Clubman chuck is not long enough.
I've a good advise for you. Fire the man who developped this "long" key and make a new key, long enough to handle the 400 mm Button Jaw.
If you decide to do so, I would like to change my key for the longer one.
Since the Brexit, this is my third purchase at Axminster and I am all over very satisfied. The prices are good and teh quality is very good!!

cole jaws

i purchase th set of 400 button jaws and machined them down to 330mm for my AT1416VS lathe, I used a bandsaw to trim them down and the carefully trued them up on my lathe with a carbide cutting tool,
The jaws are very solid and as said run true, the stacked turning studs are brilliant at holding ruff work pieces like a segmented ring for flattening off a face. I used to use an home made long worth chuck but i don't think i will us it again as these jaws are far better.
Axminsters service top notch as usual thank you.

( Axminster why don't you make a size between 250 and 400? )
