To achieve a truly sharp edge it is always best to follow grinding by honing. Honing effectively polishes the bevel. If you looked through a microscope at a freshly ground blade’s edge, it would appear to have thousands of minute teeth. The leather honing wheel, charged with a little honing compound, polishes out those teeth. It is the same effect you get from using a hand leather strop. This wheel is a moulded disc fitted with a leather rim, it is 200mm diameter, 30mm wide with a 12.5mm bore.
