In Detail

These stepped jaws fit into the chuck in place of the accessory mounting jaws to provide a selection of internal and external parallel gripping surfaces. They are made by us in Axminster using the latest CNC production methods and are compatible with the Axminster SK80, SK100 and the Evolution chuck. The sides are precision ground to ensure a high degree of accuracy in the chuck body. As with our Evolution long accessory mounting jaws, they also have the SafetyJaw feature of rounded corners for safety during use.

Quality jaws with many applications

I seem to find myself working with smaller and smaller pieces of wood on my lathe and needed a set of low profile jaws to give me the tool clearance and safety to do this without either destroying what I'm turning or destroying my hands on the chuck. Although these jaws are plenty chunky and will have no trouble holding big bowl blanks securely, they're also perfect for the more delicate work I do. The depth between steps is 5 or 6mm and they close down to about 3mm with a square profile if you use the internal ones as externals, giving a central holding depth of a little over 15mm clear of the chuck face itself.

If I had one wish for these it would be that they be made reversible (or that a reversible set be added to the options) just to keep an extra set from taking up space in the smaller workshop.

A long time coming

With all the previous problems encountered with the fitting of foreign stepped jaws in Axminster's own made chucks , I was so pleased that finally the Evolution Chuck that I purchased now has a set of high quality internal and external stepped jaws which I am able to use .
Working with acrylics and polyesters both small and large , the accuracy is most important , and the less bulky design works very well with the projects that I undertake.
The price was a bonus as the earlier foreigm jaws were a lot more expensive
All in All , a great addition to the Axminster range
