Good mount cutter

This is a perfectly adequate mount cutter, you just have to take your time.
I find I really need the rule that goes with it to make good bevelled mount cuts.
When the cutter is in the groove of the rule, the blade cuts exactly 59mm from the edge of the rule (on my one anyway). So I just clamp the rule to a cutting mat and line up the cut mark on the mount 59mm from the edge and hey presto, perfect cuts.
You still have to make a load of very light cuts, cut too deep in one hit and the blade flexes leading to a wobbly line.
I’m very happy with it however, once I had the knack of it!

Mount cutter

Some of these reviews seem a bit unfair. This is an adequate mount cutter. I have cut a number of picture frame imserts at 45 degree bevel with it. Christopher Winter is wrong, axminster do supply a rule for it, its shown in the picture but you buy it seperate. (catalgue number 423001 or 423002) While not 100 percent necessary it is very hard to position it exactly where you want it without this rule. It has a groove in it the mount cutter slides along allowing you to repeat the cut until its down to a suitable depth. The lack of 5 stars is solely because the blades could be sharper but for thsi price you couldnt do much better.

Unlike Mr Dilley, I am only trying to make straight cuts and even that is a pig ussing this tool. The cutter is obviously designed to hook onto some kind of rail guide (which Axminster don't appear to sell), and the slight stepped lip means that it keeps riding up the edge of my metal ruler and I end up with a line that wavers back and forth depending on which edge abutted the metal ruler at any point.

Mount Cutter

Recently bought this item & happy with it. If i wanted to cut curved shapes I wouldn't have got this one. Made a slight modification to the cutter, inserted a very small piece of plastic in the blade slide to prevent the blade going too deep, just enough to go through mount. As for not being able to see the blade position, just line up the ruler / guide in correct position....hey problem. Considering the comparative cost compared with others on the market, you won't get a Rolls Royce fot the price of a Mini. Overall... good value.

Mount Cutter

this cutter is useless other than a straight cut. impossible to make cut out of mount as the blade position cannot be seen . Obviously a cheap item nevertheless a waste of money
