Description

In Detail

We think that this is the best universal centre available today. There are two sealed bearings in the body and the working end has a taper for mounting the various interchangeable tips, guaranteeing that they run perfectly concentric. There is an ejector ring behind the tip which is operated by two tommy bars. The centre is supplied with three tips, a standard 60° cone for general work, a 9.5mm(3/8") diameter by 16mm(5/8") long point for small or close work and a cup or ring centre for open grain or split turning. In addition to the standard tips there are three additional tips, included which will further increase the scope of the centre. A 30mm diameter mini faceplate with a central screw which is very useful when turning long stemmed goblets, a 90° pipe centre for use when locating in on a pre-bored hole and a conical centre for quick centring on small work or as a support when turning spherical forms. We hope that you will agree that we have covered just about every possibility and that the Multihead Centre deserves a place in your tool box. Available in either 1 or 2 MT.

Good piece of kit

This is up to the high standard I have come to expect from Axminster power tools. It is well made. Heavy, which usually indicates a good product. It has useful additional centres. The 90 degree cone. I find useful when making pepper mills, using crush grind shaft mechanisms. It sits nicely in the bottom end. It may seem expensive. But compare it to other revolving centres and you may find this is pretty good value.
It is also made in England.

Great but a couple of things

I bought one of these back in the summer and have to say this is a very versatile centre. Namely due to the multiple tips. The mini faceplate is very useful to attach any type of centre that you can create. To turn a wooden centre all you need do is screw a scrap of wood to the faceplate and use a small drive to drive the wood while held to the faceplate. Two things let this centre down, firstly is it is not stainless steel. A personal grievance but an improvement could be made. Secondly is a more functional problem. If you are going to use the ring centre be advised it does not match the other ring centres in axminster's range. One recent addition to axminster's products gets rid of this, the ring centre converter. Just slips over the main 60 degree centre and the problem goes away. Only a problem if you use the matched ring centre method. Other wise a great centre and one of only two I use on the lathe. (The other being the axminster mini extended nose centre.)

Good old Axminster again

This is a terrific piece of kit built to the highest standards and everything works extremely well. The addition of some larger cones would take the centre into the fantastic class. Have used this centre for a few years and the ease of use plus the quality of concentricity it is the best I have ever come across. Having said that the cost of the tool is well covered when you get such a high quality tool. Forget the cheap ones and the American ones this is the best and it is British.

Versatile, adaptable and repairable.

I'm an architectural turner. I believe my center is over 12 years old and it is very useful. The rotating outer body easily allows the making of custom tips. Usually from aluminium. All bearings wear out. These bearings are common and I've just installed the third set. The main tip and body have diameters just under 3/4",1", 1 1/4" and 1 1/2". This is very handy for boring your stock before you turn it. For other bore diameters simply make a new tip. Note: Be sure to allow sufficient size at the body end for extraction ring to work.

Excellent quality But...

Excellent built quality, but I had expected the extra cones being somewhat larger in diameter á la the Oneway wich is aprx twice the size.
Their size is no-where to be found before ordering. Had I known how small they are, I would have gone for the Oneway live center
