Needs modifying for SC2 and doesn't do many thread pitches

To use this on the SC2 without removing the lead-screw cover, an extra piece of metal needs to be added to lower the mounting point of the indicator.

It then works well, but only for 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm pitches. For 1.5 mm pitches, it's a 1.5 mm lead screw, so you don't need a thread dial indicator. For other pitches, you need either a 14 tooth or 15 tooth gear (this is a 16 tooth gear). The manual states that it works with all pitches, but it's wrong. For example, it lists the positions for a 0.7 mm pitch to be 1 and 4.5. This means in practice that there's a 3.5 position offset between each valid position, so on the first rotation it's 1 and 4.5, but it's then 8, 3.5, 7, 2.5, 6, etc so you have to know how many times it's gone round from your original starting point and it isn't much better than having no thread-dial indicator.

I contacted Axminster customer support about this and they confirmed that this is true. I suggested they update the website to warn other users, but they haven't done so after several years, so I thought I'd add a review to warn others of the limitation.

Note for SC2 users

Very useful addition, but PLEASE NOTE that if you intend to use this on the SC2, you will have to permanently remove the Carriage Drive/Lead Screw protection cover (or modify it) to allow the indicator to fit. Other than that no problems at all. The C2 does NOT normally come with a Carriage Drive/Lead Screw protection cover.

C3 too

I would say this fits the Sieg C3 Lathe as well. You have to tilt it up against the lead screw but that's just how it should be. Great addition to the lathe.
