Chuck Guard Problem

An alternative to changing the guards retaining bolt etc - its a quick job to machine a small slot through the back of the faceplate ribs to suit the offending nut...

Chuck guard problem

When using this faceplate with the SIEG SC4 lathe the chuck guard will foul the faceplate. Axminster state that the chuck guard needs to be removed but if this is done an interlock microswitch will have to be disabled also. I found a better solution to keep the gaurd in place and keep the interlock operational is to remove the guard's retaining bolt, washer, two nuts and spring. Replace these with a spring washer and a 5mm x 40mm screw, retain the original washer and the white nylon bush and reassemble. There will be plenty of clearance now and the guard and interlock work perfectly.

A substantial faceplate

Very pleased with the quality. A solid faceplate which runs true (less than 0.05mm total runout on the rim of mine).
Despite the warning in the description the faceplate does fit my C4B lathe with the chuck guard in place, however items fitted to the faceplate could catch on the guard if it is not removed.
