2 handles stripped already

Bought lathe months ago but had to wait till I built workshop to use it, beginner wood turner, 2 of the handles on my lathe have stripped only used for 2 months, poor quality, screw chuck broke and today snapped my roughing gouge in half all bought from axminster

Plastic cover?

My tool rest locking handle failed so I contacted Axminster who (as always) were great to deal with. Having now read the reviews it is strange that such a good company produces such an inadequate tightening handle for the tool rest.

Must try harder

Shocking. For a company that prides itself (with some justification) on customer service, the fact that Axminster sells these things is something of a mystery. The one that came with the lathe stripped its thread, as did the replacement, as did its replacement in turn. In the end I resorted to throwing away the handle and tightening the nut with a pair of pliers, which is hardly ideal, but needs must.

Guys - little things like this are easy to fix but if not fixed cause reputational damage.

Sort it out.

It's the handle. Throw it away. 3/8'' key does the work perfectly.

Very poor quality metal

I got one of these to replace one that broke off on my Axminster lathe. Normal hand tightening and it sheared clean off.
Bought this as a replacement and it only lasted a couple of months, before it also failed. This time it was the socketed section inside the adjuster that has rounded off and no longer grips over the hex on the pinch bolt.
These items are obviously made with poor quality steel and insufficient hardening of the steel.
Cutting corners on quality does not make a good product.
I now need to buy yet another one, but I will be surprised if it lasts any longer than the previous two.
