In Detail

Trade Classification & 3 Year Guarantee

The AT1416VS utilises the very reliable inverter technology usually found on much larger machines. Electronic variable speed is a desirable feature for woodturners, enabling fine tuning of speed to suit delicate work, larger diameters or out of balance work pieces. A three step poly-V pulley system allows three speed ranges which coupled with the load sensing inverter ensure maximum torque and stable spindle speeds. The magnetic backed switch unit can be placed on any convenient position on the lathe bed or headstock to suit the work in hand. It incorporates on/off buttons, a speed control knob and a forward and reverse switch. An LED digital read-out of the spindle speed in RPM is a useful feature that helps control your work. A 400mm(16") between centres and a 350mm (14") swing over the bed capacity is generous on a lathe this compact. Spindle indexing is achieved in 15° segments by insertion of a magnetic dowel pin. Threaded holes (3/8"x16 UNC) are provided at each corner of the lathe for bench mounting. Tool post diameter 1" (25.4mm). This lathe has proved to be very popular for both teaching and craft demonstrations, not too big nor heavy but with enough capacity to show off your skills. Supplied with four prong Axminster drive centre, Axminster revolving tailstock centre, 75mm faceplate and a centres knock out bar.

N.B. The distance between centres will vary and be dependent on the type of centres or accessories used.

2nd hand but first class

Note: Complete newbie.

My research led me to consume everything on the internet regarding hobby lathes incl. forums, sites, blogs, youtube etc.. - you name it. I then spoke with people with significant woodturning experience, members of fellowships, Axminster competitors and other assorted knowledge purveyors and decided to veer away from the hobby lathes and commit to this. If you are contemplating a lathe for a small workshop you're at the right place. I've used it a few times - its incredibly quiet and planted. I was lucky enough to snap up a 2nd hand option via one of the guys I spoke with. Completely recommend.

You get what you pay for...

Wow...what a machine. Haven't had a proper go on it yet, but gave it a test run and it's so silent, so sleek, perfectly made, controls are strong. Delivery spot on, all round Axminster service and support before hand was great. If you are looking at this lathe, stop....ok now go buy it.

The best after sale service

As a proffesional, two thinks that consider me when I buy a machine: the quality of the machine and the quality of the after sales service. As the quality of the lathe I had the oportunity to find out. Powerful motor, excellent quietly inverter, heavy construction and very useful bed extension. As the quality of the after sales service, I had some doubts because I live in Athens in Hellas, far away from Axminster, in case that I need to fix any lathe problem. My concern has increased when I noticed a small problem to the DRO unit. Axminster sent me a new one without any question, but the new one also had the same problem . The third time, by human mistake, they sent me a wrong DRO unit. And then I had the chance to find out what is that makes the Axminster a grate company. They sent me a brand new lathe BEFORE I had to send the faulty lathe back. From now and on, when I am going to buy something, I will buy from Axminster.

super lathe

been using one to teach so bought myself one, excellent quality, and does what is says it does on a very very heavy box. Some comments, the lathe is exceptionally heavy as it needs to be, however its fixed to a bench via 4 bolts in its corner- a cheap paper template of these hole locations would have been so useful. I also bought a chuck converter to use my existing K10 chuck and the spanner size is slightly different from the one supplied for the lathe- an annoying issue that does not detract froma good product

Great 1614VS lathe

I have used this lathe now for over six months and it is the best thing I ever bought so far for my wood turning hobby! It is solidly build , runs very quiet and reliable, all part are made pretty accurate , very suitable for a beginner and a professional alike. The was a little steep in price but worth it and I have no regrets.
One thing though, I am not too happy with, is , the motor is placed right underneath the cast iron bed and shavings and saw dust is gathering on top of it and not easy to keep away as my lathe is mounted on top of a purpose build bench. Brilliant lathe , worth every penny and if I should change to another lathe in the distance future , it would be the next model from Axminster!
