Nice machine but.....I was after a better quality bench grinder than the one I own and after a bit of research opted for this model along with the Axminster Wood-turners sharpening system. As always delivery was prompt. Unfortunately it was a while before I had a chance to unpack the grinder and I have to say it was rather disappointing. The outer guard on the left wheel was totally mis-aligned and I had to break the spot welds that hold the circumference guard in place in order to line it up correctly. That was problem one. My intention for this grinder was always to use it with the sharpening system so the supplied plastic shields and tool rests went straight into a drawer. I had made a custom mobile base for this grinder and went on to make the base for the grinder and jig combo to sit on the mobile base. I had watched the recommended you tube video and read the instructions and expected to have some super sharp gouges and chisels within a couple of hours. Hmmmm. Firstly the instructions say the bar guide should be mounted centrally under the grinder wheel and the centre of the wheel should be no more than 6 1/2 inches from the base. Well I made a base to suit these dims and very carefully centred and aligned everything, then found the handles to clamp the bar down foul on the outer guard making it completely unusable in this configuration. After some brain ache I decided to raise the grinder above the recommended 6 1/2 inches, I was still not going to be grinding near the centre line of the wheel so I felt comfortable doing this. I remade the base so the handles would clear and re-tested and all seemed to be fine, I then tried the flat tool rest and guess what, it is now nowhere near high enough. I shall have to add at least 25mm to the height to make it usable. I shall do this by adding a hardwood spacer then remounting the metal tool rest over this. I haven't tried the tool rest for flat or skew chisels and not sure how the raised flat tool rest will work. If get that far I shall update this review. Overall the grinder itself is not a bad bit of kit, good weight and a powerful motor. Like others on here I'm not a fan of the safety cover on the switch. What I am disappointed with is the quality control or complete lack of it. The outer guard misalignment was approx 7mm and quite clear to the naked eye.....how does something this wrong get packaged ready for delivery and not get noticed? The other disappointment is that with all the research i did on the Axminster site nowhere could I glean that the two items are incompatible if you adhere to the instructions. I appreciate that a lot of machinery needs fine tuning and some adjustment but these modifications are quite major and for the money I expected better quality.

Very good value for money. I would recomend this to others.Very good machine, good value for money. My only concern is the bore, and adaptors to fit other wheels. I have no problem with guard shields or on/off button, if you treat it properly they are fine. This was recommended to me for my woodturning tools and I'm very satisfied. I'm trying to get a finer wheel 180 to 200 grit that will fit the grinder, any help you can give me on this, maybe you can recommend. I can only express my satisfaction with this grinder, ideal for school woodwork rooms/workshops.

Top piece of kitVery happy with my grinder. I purchased it back in April and its been great. The fine stone grinds well and has proved to be hard wearing. I converted the left hand side to wire wheel so cannot comment about the rough stone performance. It spins up very smoothly indeed.
