The kit comprises of 4 tins of Axminster Wax: Machine Wax, Tool Protection Wax, Clear Paste Wax and Microcrystalline Wax.
Here’s the rub.
Each of these waxes has a specific formulation, designed for a specific application. Each one is the result of extensive development and testing by the Axminster development team and a leading wax manufacturer.
Axminster Machine Wax 400g
Machine Wax greatly reduces friction between timber and the surface of machine tables or hand tools. This makes the job of processing much smoother and results in an increase in the quality of the machined surface.
Machine wax is silicone free, apply sparingly to the machine tables and buff with a soft cloth. It is of particular benefit on aluminium alloy and cast iron, and helps prevent corrosion. Always remember to disconnect machinery before applying wax.
Axminster Tool Protection Wax 20g
Prevention is better than cure. Bare high carbon steel or cast iron and high humidity do not mix. To some, the resulting metal surface is a ‘patina’, to others it’s ’rusty’. Axminster Tool Protection Wax forms a protective barrier on the bare metal surface of planes, chisels, saws etc. It contains no silicones, which could create gluing or finishing problems. Easy to apply, use a soft cloth, wait a few minutes then give it a quick buff. A little goes a long way.
Axminster Paste Wood Wax 400g
This blend of waxes is suitable for use on bare, sealed, dyed or previously polished wood. Once dry and buffed, it has an attractive and durable waxen sheen. For the best results, apply sparingly using ‘0000’ steel wool or a fine, non-woven abrasive pad. Allow it to dry and then buff with a polishing brush, followed by a soft clean cloth. Apply a second coat to give a greater depth to the finish.
Axminster Microcrystalline Restoration Wax 400g
Microcrystalline wax offers superior protection, the wax dries hard and its high melting point helps protect against and prevent finger marks. Microcrystalline wax polish is versatile and very effective. Use it on sanded bare wood, over lacquer, varnish or French polish; on metal surfaces: brass, copper, bronze, steel; on marble and granite worktops, or smooth leather.
Microcrystalline wax stays clear and does not discolour. It is pH neutral and acid free, suitable for use on sensitive materials. The wax repels moisture and damp on furniture. Its properties help prevent tarnishing of polished metal surfaces.
