In Detail

A very useful power feed system for the X axis to provide a smooth, variable speed drive to the traverse of the table. This will enable control of the cut finish to a much greater extent than achievable by hand. With simple controls for left/right movement, auto stop in any position on the table provided by movable stops, overload protection and a fast traverse button giving 1m per min speed. Simple to fit and powered by a standard 230V three pin plug, so no wiring is required. N.B. For ZX series mills only.

This product is on page 104 of the Axminster Tools & Machinery 2018/19 Catalogue.

Very good

An excellent product and very well priced. Other suppliers seem to want to sell you 110V versions so they can make money by selling you a transformer as well.

I fitted mine to a Chester "Lux" mill and all I had to do was turn up a 10mm thick spacer to fit the Mill feedscrew to get the gears to line up properly.

However, they do seem to be electrically "fragile". My Axminster DC100 dust collector went "bang" and seemed to cause a surge which has damaged the power feed electrics. I've just had to order a replacement,

This has caused me to rate quality lower than I would have done otherwise.

When I get the replacement I will feed it via one of those surge protection blocks you can buy for computers.

Confusing manual spoils an excellent product

The process of assembling and fitting the power feed should have been straightforward, but was let down by a totally inappropriate instruction manual provided by the (Chinese) manufacturer. Only after wading through 17/18 pages of the manual was it apparent that the correct unit had been supplied. It would have helped if Axminster had produced their own fitting instructions, and the catalogue illustration provided far more helpful information about how the power feed should be fitted. The actual fitting took about 25 minutes and the feed worked perfectly first time. No time yet to see how it performs doing serious milling tasks, but I'm confident it will do a good job.
The limit microswitch in its present form is clumsy and needs redesign in my opinion.

Great to use.

I have recently fitted this power feed to my RF 31 Mill Drill. Job was done in less than half an hour. But make sure your lead screw dial is on the right hand side of the table. Well worth the money!!!!!

Power Feed

Just fitted this power feed to my ZX25 Mill and have done a faiir bit of machining with it. It `does exactly what it says on the tin`. Easy to fit ( change handwheel for gear, clamp to table, set clearence on drive gears, fix limit switch and stops, plug into 240v power supply, switch on and go). easy to use and makes machining straight forward.
Well worth fitting.
The only problem is, it makes cleaning out the swarf from the end a bit fiddly, but if you wrap a small magnet in a piece of cloth that helps.
