Great Sander

I have had one of these for a few years now, and it just keeps going. Its consistently good. I would suggest that the guy who keeps breaking his is probably pressing too hard. From experience, the two times i had the same problem with mine was when i wasnt using it.

Great sander, just dont press too hard, thats not how its designed to be used.

Could be great if it didn't keep breaking

I purchased this sander two years ago. On it's first use the bolt that holds the sanding plate to the machine snapped and launched itself and the plate at an intimidating speed across the workshop. I contacted Axminster and they of course collected, had it repaired and returned it.
Around the same time I also bought the Bosch GEX 150 Turbo. A much more powerful orbital sander but with no anti-vibration. This is a fantastic tool and as such have used this instead whenever requiring a random orbital. The GEX 125-150 AVE has been reserved for times when two orbitals have been necessary, which has meant it's seen very little usage (probably 5 or 6 times).
Anyway two days ago was one such time. A friend and I were sanding back a greyed Balau deck for retreatment. The GEX 125-150 AVE had been in use (but not constantly) for about 20 minutes when the same thing happened again. Snapped bolt, launching plate. This time it's also snapped a much smaller machine screw, about 2mm.
Like an idiot I didn't extend the warranty with Bosch, meaning it is now out of warranty and I will have to pay them to fix it. Wholly frustrating as it's clearly a design fault.
Furthermore my experience with Bosch after sales care is pretty appalling. They lose stuff, take forever to return, or replace with inferior goods.
Once they have inspected your tool they will issue you with a Mafiosi style kidnap threat. 'Either pay the money or we'll send it back to you in pieces'. Something you're not informed of when booking the repair.
So, what to do? Retire the almost new sander or go through the torturous process of being held over a barrel and well and truly shafted by Bosch?
In brief. Avoid this tool. And yes. Make sure to always register any new Bosch tool and extend the warranty to three years. I have a great number of Blue Bosch tools built up over years and pretty much every one I've bought in the last three years has developed problems. I fear their quality is taking a nose dive.

sander and Axminister 5 star service

Excellent sander replaced my Bosch green DIY sander which finally surrendered.
This replacement is a first class machine, excellent dust extraction when hooked up to shop vac. Low vibration, permitting single handed sanding.
Axminster first class service, I had a Homer Simpson moment and mistakenly ordered 110 volt called Axminster arranged pick up and exchange for correct voltage. Staff when I called, were first class,

great machine.

This is a very high quality machine.
It's good of bosch to include the pad options-although for me it seems to function best with the 150 mm pads.
it feels a little more likely to topple with the 125mm pad fitted, especially if you are trying to work one-handed or on narrower surfaces.
The dust extraction is very effective with the on-board collector, and excellent with an extractor fitted,
although again it's better on the 150mm pads.
i bought this machine after i've started to invest in a few festool items, on this ocassion i could not justify double the cost on festool (and also face the choice of 3 or 5mm orbit) -plumbing for the 4mm of the bosch and the choice of 5 or 6 inch sanders in one machine.

i deffinately do not regret buying bosch on this occasion, i've been buying bosch blue for decades now for my work, and very rarely have problems.
This tool says made in switzerland on the label, which along with germany is where i want my bosch blue to come from!
i've got a tile lazer and grinder from china, and a diamond tile cutter from mexico, so come on bosch, don't let things slip!

My only gripe-and it's a personal one, is that i could not order it in a systainer, or a carton so that i could fit it into one myself.
in this regard, for me, l-boxxes arent a patch on systainers.
