In Detail

Do you like the smell of fresh ground coffee? Well if you make your pens with one of these blanks, you will be able to enjoy the aroma as you turn. Made from real coffee beans encased in cream coloured acrylic, these blanks offer a unique choice for the discerning pen turner. At 125 x 19 x 19mm many different pen types can be produced from this blank. N.B. You may find that stabilising the blank with thin cyanoacrylate adhesive as it is reduced in diameter will help to achieve a good finish.

This product is on page 292 of the Axminster Tools & Machinery 2018/19 Catalogue.

Nice idea but a challenge.

I am new to pen turning and have made a few of these now but had to 'rescue' every one by using similar coloured filler, to repair chips and breaks, and CA to stabilise locally. I have also scrapped a couple. They are a frustrating pen to make and I now avoid them. Try Banksia/resin hybrids instead...a great alternative.

Ok with a lot of care

I use these for the twist end only of the European filigree pen kit. You must use sharp tools or you just have an explosion of coffee beans. It does make the workshop smell nice though!!

I have one of my own pens that is over a year old and still smells of coffee beans.

the coffee bean blanks are a waste of money, if they hadn't been the price that they are it may have been ok, but there not. I started turning mine 1st one out of two bought, lovely smell; then I started to lose the coffee beans while turning, I finished up with one with no beans down one side the other with uneven beans. I don't think i'll be buying anymore.

the coffee beans blank does chip but if you start of with the skew its fine, it does take time and care but its worth while

Not as the picture

I bought one, and under the turning it didnt hold the beans, my tools are Sharp, so thats not it, and there where only beans in one end of the blanks, i send a complain and i got a new one, fine, but it was the same, i said they should look at it before shipping i didnt want one like the first on, now i got a blank i dont even want to use time on :-(

look at the Picture, it has beans al over it, thats not what i got, not even after a complain.
