Turning small detailed pieces requires tools that allow you to create fine detail. These tools sit comfortably in the hand, offering complete control when turning small pieces such as pens etc. The tools feature HSS blades with well-shaped hardwood handles. The overall length of each tool is approximately 190mm. The set includes 3.2mm(1/8") and 6.3mm(1/4") gouges, 1.6mm(1/16") parting tool, 6.3mm(1/4") domed scraper and 6.3mm(1/4") skew chisel, all neatly contained in a wooden box.
Axminster Evolution Series Compression Pen Mandrel
Operating in a different way to other mandrels, the Evolution Series Compression Pen Mandrel is a big step forward in mandrel design. The prepared pen blanks are located on the shaft with the appropriate bushings and then the hollow revolving centre moved into position over the shaft. On tightening the tailstock quill, the blank and bushings are in compression and not the shaft as with conventional mandrels. The result is improved concentricity and results in less vibration during turning. Because the steel mandrel shaft is within the revolving tailstock centre, length adjustment is unnecessary.
