The DMT Dia-Flat™ Lapping Plate will flatten most sharpening stones, waterstones, oilstones or Arkansas stones. It is a combination of supreme flatness and DMT’s proprietary Diamond Hardcoat Technology™. It is a significant leap forward in durability and it will outlast any other diamond coating on the market. This is critical because the flattening process puts a tremendous amount of wear on stones compared with sharpening. DMT individually inspect EVERY Lapping Plate to make sure it meets strict specifications. Each plate includes a certificate for flatness, guaranteed to be less than ±0.0127mm across its surface. Over 30 carats of diamond grit give you a consistent, aggressive, 95 micron / 160 grit surface. The grit cuts fast and produces excellent results. The weight and extra large surface area keep it on your stone and make it easy to use. Size 254 x 102 x 10mm.

Should really be called Waterstone lapping plateDone a bit of research before buying this plate and read the stories of people ruining them by flattening oilstones made from aluminum oxide or carborundum so ok I thought I'll use it just for waterstones and flattening the odd plane sole anyway I can now confirm that halfway through flattening my record 4 1/2 plane using light pressure the wear is already evident on this 'lapping' plate with smooth(not wore in) patches so I shall be finishing the flattening process on glass with sandpaper now.
