In Detail

Easyscribe is an innovative tool that accurately solves scribing problems. It draws offset lines quickly and the design makes it fully adjustable (1 to 40mm) with one hand. The tool is also a handy gauge for marking parallel lines or setting hinge depths and the adjustable plate makes it the perfect butt gauge. The unique extendable blade allows you to scribe the lines around a door without lifting it in and out several times to get the perfect fit. Its 2H rectangular lead never gets blunt, no matter how long the scribe. Whether you are scribing to a wall, a floor or a gap between materials, this is the perfect tool for the job.

Nice idea but...

As a carpenter I have tried several scribing tools over the years from a simple pencil compass to a small piece of wood which is usually all you need in a hurry. I find I go to a dedicated scribing tool when I'm fitting something that can't be clamped parallel or because your up a ladder and you only have one hand free. Problem with this one is as already said by Robert previously - the pencil lead arm can flex when scribing, so if you can only see a faint line you run it down again to find you now have two lines around 3mm apart. Not good at all when your trying to be quick. If your really gentle with it it works fine, so it has a use but honestly, most of the carpenters I know are far from gentle and I think they would get frustrated with it. I found that you have to loosen the lead and push it back into its housing before you put it back in its case otherwise the tips snap in transit. Also you can't scribe fine tight curves of some mouldings (just like the picture with the white skirting in the description-note there is only a line down the un-moulded section). For this kind of scribe I would use an Accuscribe. Overall the easy scribe has some flaws that make spending that kind of money on it annoying but nevertheless its flat extendable blade scribes better in some situations.

Excellent precision tool

I am a professional boatbuilder who was looking around for a new scribing tool. One of my key requirements was for a tool that could scribe timbers to be joined together, where the gap between them was sometimes less than 1mm. This is the only tool on the market that offers this functionality. Other tools may work as well when scribing against a wall, but nothing comes close to this for sheer accuracy.
There are only two small let-downs with the tool:-
First is the proprietary lead used for marking. Far better would have been to adopt a mechanism that holds standard pencil leads, or even a propelling pencil.
Secondly is that there is no depth stop on the flat blade used as a guide for scribing. With this the tool would attain perfect status!
These are only minor gripes, though. The second is more of a wish-list for version 2 of the tool. I'd be happy to recommend this tool to anyone

Great bit of kit

Bought this little gem for hanging doors, makes fitting doors so easy. Essential bit of kit for all finish carpenters, great for scribing architraves, skirting and flooring.

Good but.......

This is a nice little scribing tool which is innovative and on the face of it, well made. Unfortunately I find if I scribe the line more than once ( to make a more legible mark) the arm moves causing a double line or follows the original line then jumps to trace a new one. This is disconcerting and irritating. There is obviously some backlash in the mechanism, although I've tried adjusting from closed to open, and vice versa with similar results. Maybe mine's a ropy one; others may comment otherwise. This would be a five star product otherwise.
