Quality not up to Festool standards

Re Richard's comments, I have both the CMS-TS 55R Saw Table Module and the CMS OF2200 router module (neither from Axminster). What Richard talks about is apparent in both: a surprising lack of quality, seen in roughly finished edges, poor quality tappings in the alumninum base etc.

In the CMS-TS 55R, the alignment system Festool use involves the dark-blue plastic inserts in the base module (CMS frame) that Richard mentioned (also a bit rough and flaked in my system) and two cams on the insert plate designed to push the insert firmly into place. In practice, the quality of design and build mean that the system simply doesn’t work. No matter what measures you take (and I’ve tried a lot) the degree of squareness to frame is different every-time, by a significant amount. I use my CMS with the sliding table (a good piece of kit), but it means that the alignment of the insert in relation to the base unit is critical. So, every time I re-fit the saw module, I have to spend time re-calibrating to get square cuts that I can trust.

I have quite a lot of Festool power tools and I love the quality and performance of all of them. By contrast, the CMS kit feels like it comes from a different design team and a different factory, with oversight by a management team that makes cost savings in the wrong places. Shame, as the rest of Festool’s kit is so good.

2nd hand goods ??

As a result of inspecting a BRAND NEW UNPACKAGED saw table module. I am obliged to withdraw my second hand used goods statement.
The item I inspected was in a more deplorable state than mine. The saw blade slot looks as thought it was added as a after thought, it is so badly machined, (perhaps machined is the incorrect term).
I would liken it to have been made with a rotary rasp in a hand held electric drill. For a company with Festool's eye for detail and excellence, in my mind this is a batch of items that escaped inspection on a Friday afternoon. I most probably invalidated any warranty as I had to draw file the edges of the slot to allow any timber to pass over it smoothly, also not to cut my hand cleaning the rosin off after dismantling the TS55 saw.

2nd hand goods

I purchased the saw table module and CMS stand from High Wycombe the packages appeared to have been opened. On inspection all components were present. Subsequently I found the the saw track was not smooth and machined. The CMS has 4 plastic inserts that were crumbled up and wouldn't allow the locking cams to be locked. I was advised on a call to Festool to remove them. My local Festool rep got me replacement parts all works fine now. However I firmly believe from the type of distress caused to the saw track and the CMS. Someone had purchased these. set up the TS55 incorrectly did the damage then returned the items not wanted. Thus my logic explains from the damages this was a second hand item. BUYER BEWARE

Very pleased.

I have been in need of a table saw for a while but it had to be portable , not take up much room and also be accurate. I considered some of the portable saws available but was mainly put off by the weight, advancing age means that I have to take more care of my back. The saw table coupled to the CMS base has solved the problem of weight and accuracy and provided me with a good quality table saw. Its not a cheap option but like most Festool gear its very well thought out and does a good job. I was concerned that attaching and removing the saw might be too much trouble but its actually quite quick and easy, the on line videos by Peter Parfitt show how its done and are well worth watching. Overall I am very pleased with this buy which has given me the versatile saw I needed.
