In Detail

Festool 3 Year Warranty (Registration Required)

The 'DOMINO' is a unique jointing system using rounded loose tenons to join timber giving very strong accurate and precise joints. Combining exceptional versatility with simple handling for maximum precision, the DOMINO has a patented routing principle with a wide range of adjustment options to make it extremely easy to use. The machine's fence can be adjusted to cut slots centrally in 5 pre-set timber thicknesses and manually adjusted for other thicknesses. The dowels can be placed centrally, offset, in pairs or groups. There are retractable stops for accurate positioning from the edge of the work piece. The jointer fence can be adjusted to 5 pre-set angles and is also infinitely variable between 0 and 90°. There are 6 different sizes of DOMINO available.

Various accessories increase the versatility of the DOMINO: Support bracket which is a simple right angle bracket that attaches to the base of the Domino with two thumb screws, this can be used to add surface area to the face of the Domino to increase stability during use. Trim stop to help align narrow wooden strips between 22 and 70mm centrally, plus it can also be used for mitre cuts. Cross stop, which is used for repeat hole spacing between 100 and 205mm without the need for marking the work. Handrail fence and DF-stop for reducing dowel centre from 37 to 20mm.

Supplied as a set version complete with: D5 cutter, support bracket, trim stop, cross stop and Systainer T-LOC case SYS 2.

Brilliant machine

I've had the Domino for around three years and have found it absolutely superb! Beautifully made, easy to use and despite the high price, earned its cost over and over again because its such a clever innovation. I haven't used my mortiser once since getting it. The instructions supplied don't do it justice, so I've found it helpful to explore online to get best from it. Highly recommended.

Joinery reinvented

If you don't use this for anything else but making small cupboard doors you'll have your money's worth just there.

I've been a carpenter and joiner for 40 years and it's not very often a new tool comes along that changes the way you think of making things.
It makes traditional mortise and tenon type joints as strong as hand made, but takes about one tenth of the time.

Just bye one and you'll change the way you work, it makes life much easier.

( if there's a meachine to do it and it's in your price range get it)

Just amazing

Just an amazing machine. festool are just in a different league so much so that using them doesn't feel like work. The speed and accuracy of this tool can't be matched and the more you use it the more jobs you find for it, its so versatile. Yes there is the sticker price shock but you get what you pay for and of all the festool tools I own I don't regret buying one of them.

Absolutely superb, innovative and fit for purpose

Festool does it again!
This is a wonderful machine and superbly engineered. I found the manual unclear in some respects (other than safety) but after lookking at the Festool video on their site it became obvious. Its expensive but worth it even if you do mortise & tenons not too often. I have a tenoning machine but doubt that I shall use it much in future as the Festool item is so quick, and precise.

I had the task of building some racking to store solid oak planks and using the DF 500 with 10mm biscuits I was able in a morning to complete the task easily. This would with my tenoning machine have taken two days to cut the mortise and then do the tenon ...I doubt also that it would have been as neat and accurate.

I also bought the sustainer with a bunch of various sized cutters and domino biscuits. This allows easy changing between biscuit sizes and enables me to do everything from picture frames to cupboards. I have a Lamello 20 biscuit machine and have always seen that as a great way to join boards, or make cupboards and indeed it is a great machine. That said the Domino is better as it takes the same time as a biscuit but is available in different sizes allowing a choice of different strengths, and the alignment is so precise that there is no ability for the work to move or drift.

I admire the balance of the machine and the ingenuity in realising this design....Well done Festool! Forget the price it is worth it.

Game changer

The Domino jointer is a true innovation - perhaps one of the most important developments in woodworking in many years. It really is that good. I feel sympathy for purists who see this as cheating, but then the same was probably said about the morticer when it was first introduced. And this can do everything and far more besides than any morticer, and it is fully portable. The ease of use and accuracy are hard to describe. Virtually no skill is required to make perfect and repeatable mortice and tenon joints, and the time saved even for the most skilled hand workers is immense. A perfect joint in 10 minutes? No problem. Yes it seems expensive, but the engineering is Festool quality and the applications are so numerous that it will quickly become one of your most used (and loved) tools. Worth every penny.
