In Detail

Festool 3 Year Warranty (Registration Required)

Upgraded version of the EHL 65 Festool Planer with a more compact design and other small improvements to make the machine more refined. The cutting block is fitted with a ground solid carbide blade that gives a shear cutting action across the width of the planer block resulting in a very fine finish. Maximum cutting depth of 4mm (accurately controlled in 0.1mm steps), this machine offers fast waste removal with easily handling. Although using only a single blade, the balance of the cutter block is very fine reducing vibration to a minimum. Changing the blade is simple and no further settings are required. The overall size and layout of the planer make it very easy to use single-handed. Supplied complete with parallel side fence, plug-it cable and SYS 2 T-LOC case.

Light weight, unfussy design but really very capable planer. I had Bosch and deWalt models before getting this....the angled blade makes sense - comparatively quiet and better finished are the results. My deWalt would chomp 4mm in a single roaring pass - which I loved, filling it's chip bag in seconds.....the Festool is equally capable of such deep passes but just gets on with it with no shouts despite being physically smaller - and does it better!

excellent planer

I've had an elu planer for 25yrs . Still got it but up graded to this easy, light weight to use. and brilliant extraction with the changeable hose sides. I use the ctl 26 which is well worth the money too.
The blade lasts for ever. Good grade of tungsten. Still, no blade likes metal (:-((

Brilliant piece of kit

Had this for around 6 months now. Bought to replace a Bosch planer I've had for years. Never really liked using the Bosch: noisy, not that well balanced and the depth-cut a little erratic. Used to grit my teeth when it had to come out of the box.

As far as Festool tools go - this is not that much more expensive than the competition. However it is a complete revelation. Much better balanced, much less noise and a super clean cut. Used with a CTL Midi extractor and there is almost no mess.

The almost infinitely variable depth cut is tremendous - giving me the confidence to tackle some very tricky detail jobs, I'd normally have used a sander for. I started thinking about this as a simple replacement planer - but I'm now using it much more often than my old Bosch.

Delightful little planer

Haven't had the opportunity to use it extensively yet but so far very impressed with it's smoothness, relatively low noise and fantastic quality of cut. Can't comment on blade life yet either. I find I have to turn the extraction (Cleantex 26) flat out otherwise the outlet clogs with chips on a heavyish cut.
