Not bad, but cheaper planers are just as good, if not better.I bought this planer a year ago, it is good but I rarely use it because the blades are too expensive. It leaves a good finish, but no better than the competition. I also have a makita kp0810c, which has more power and leaves a comparable finish. This planer is not worth the money for what it does. Unless you do a of lot deep rebating it offers nothing over the competition except the brand name.

Slightly FlawedI bought this planer years ago for shooting doors in on site, but have only used it a couple of dozen times, Ive found that this planer 9 times out of ten will put a wind (twist) on the door edge! I took it into Axminster once to complain and there happened to be a guy from Festool there doing demos of their tools, he checked it over and tried it with the fence on and hoover attachment on a piece of wood in a vice (not really site conditions !) and didn't have a problem with it, so I took it away and tried it again a few times but still I have the same problem!! Im wondering if the beds are slightly out..

No regrets.....I bought this planer eight years ago. I have used it on site work and in the workshop. The unlimited rebate and the ability to switch the dustbag to the otherside are two stand out features for me. It is heavier than other planers out there, but I have had no problems using this it on site and still have my wrist after eight years of constant use. The festool 850 planer is an exceptional piece of kit, you wont regret picking it up. Even if the price means its the only tool you pick up in a year!!!

Expensive but goodPros: Smooth, chatter-free cuts (superior to alternatives). Unlimited rebating capacity. Ability to shift depth of cut while planing. Intuitive handling.
