In Detail

This is a medium to large workshop filter unit which has the advantage that it can be positioned anywhere in the workshop, either on a bench, a shelf or suspended from the ceiling. The unit is easy to operate and has three speeds simply activated by the push of a button or by using the convenient remote control. It should be mounted away from ventilation and heating vents and is only suitable for non-metallic dust particles. The unit can be positioned either vertically or horizontally to best utilise the space available. It is fitted with a pleated cloth main filter and an electrostatically charged pre-filter. An optional charcoal filter is available which can (a) neutralise odours and harmful organic fumes and (b) refresh the air by removing smoke, dust, bacteria, pollen and other harmful microscopic particles. The machine runs reasonably quietly with noise levels of speed 1: 56 dB. speed 2: 58 dB. and speed 3: 60 dB. Supplied with main filter, electrostatically charged pre-filter and remote control. For best results leave the AFS-500 running for a few minutes to clean the air after your machines have been switched off, or use the built in 2,4 or 8 hour timer options to run the filter after you leave the workshop.

Great when it worked

Great when it worked. Stopped working after 3 years. A simple machine like this should run without problem for alot longer. Same problem that stopped mine working happened to a friend's one.

Good for your health

This shop add-on is very good for your health, for now(a month of heavy use, 10h a day) the machine works flawlessly without any kind of problem. I've read of possible faulty capacitors in control board, so I've already bought spare and more durable capacitors... just in case (but I think that can be related to a poor and old electrical line in some country).
The machine is well build (in Switzerland) an very quiet also at full speed.

Great...until it wasn't!

This machine worked faultlessly for three years...but then the electronics packed in and the cost of replacement parts is more than the cost of a new machine! My verdict would be its not really up to the job in an commercial/trade environment.

Had one of these for years filters last for ages and clear lots of muck from my workshop atmosphere. We run a saw and tool sharpening business and this extractor has made a big difference to noses full of black grinding dust. Apparently not designed for fine particles but this machine seems to clear a lot of it up if not all. Well worth the money.

Pleased with Purchase

I'm very pleased I got this. I have been cutting up a lot of wood in the lounge, for the new workshop, and have been using the AFS-500 along with the Axminster NVD750-2 Numatic dust extractor. The air is clean and there is very minimal dust settling on the surfaces in the room.
The unit can easily be moved around using the carrying handle.
The unit is quite quiet on low speed, there is hardly any vibration at all from it, and it moves a lot of air.
The remote control signal changes the channel on my Satellite Receiver box LOL (it's really not a problem).
As another reviewer mentioned, the cardboard filter boxes need some attention because of the gaps. Rather than tape, I joined the two filter boxes together using clingfilm, and when the boxes were installed I gently plugged up the gaps with rolled up clingfilm. When it is time to service the filters, the clingfilm can be removed without damaging the cardboard boxes.
