In Detail

This Jet cyclone extractor is highly efficient due to its directly mounted cartridge filter and the two stage airflow system separating the waste before the filter. This gives a higher airflow than single stage machines of comparable power. Even though it is quite compact it still has a large waste drum and is easily emptied due to its independent castors. The deep pleated cartridge filter will capture particles down to 1 micron and is fitted with a manual dual paddle cleaning system. The alloy bodied induction motor runs cool and the noise level is quite moderate, so not too intrusive in the workshop. You have a choice of two inlet sizes, so either one larger 153mm or twin 102mm to suit a wide range of machines. Well made, quiet and powerful, this extractor is a great choice for a small workshop.

I just moved house and the new workshop needed fitting out so I chose this waste/dust extractor. Difficult to unbox (I dreaded the "return in original packaging" had I had a problem! So far I don't: I just had an electrician round to quote on a ring extension and he says the ratings on the machine DONT warrant a 16 amp spur...and the fact that it comes with a 13a standard mains plug pre-wired shows that!! The ratings above ask about "Features" but as it doesn't have much other that suction and cyclone separation? well!! The quality looks Ok, as does the value, but as there isn't a great deal of comparison kit this side of the pond, who knows...
The plastic mouldings break when fitted and there is no way around giving them a thump to click them on! but they stay in place even minus the bits that broke off!!

I'd like someone to give a definitive answer to the electric debate.... Thanks.

Not great...

Had this machine for 6 months, it started blowing its fuse on start up everytime. Turns out its rated 16amps not the 13amps...even though it comes with a 13amp plug as standard, dodgy and rather disapointing.

Good product but let down by some penny pinching.

JCDC 1.5 Dust collector arrived next day from Axminster, well packed, instructions typically lacking detail with plenty of potential to assemble incorrectly but got there in the end with a bit of common sense. Took around 2 hours to assemble with a bit of extra help for the heavy lifting. No included 14mm spanner for the castors, which annoyingly needs to be very thin, luckily found a suitable bike spanner. Quality of bolts is poor especially when using Jet's nasty pressed steel spanner which spreads open and is a recipe for skinned knuckles! Cannot understand why Taiwan insists on using poor quality fixings when they are a tiny percentage of the overall cost of the unit. Spot welding alignment poor on the bin lid but otherwise the whole unit is well made. The plastic cover mouldings need warming prior to assembly to avoid breakage.

Only 3 stars for value as the unit can be bought in the USA for around £750....good old England! I guess the governments VAT and Axminster's profit need to be factored in but it still seems a high UK premium.

Early days but so far I'm very pleased with the extractor, it's quiet and works well, plenty of suction and the cyclone separator is particularly good with very little debris making it to the filter and bag. Will soon connect to a small workshop ducting system and see how it performs in anger. Overall a good product and with a little more attention to detail with the instructions and better quality fixings it could be a great product!

Axminster reply
We have checked the price of this machine as sold in the USA, Amazon list it at $1049 which seems to be the going rate. In the UK we have several other costs to bear, the costs of shipping to the UK from Taiwan is 50% more than from Taiwan to Los Angeles, the costs of CE Certification split over an expected 500 sales life span which is around £15 each, the extra build costs of a CE version, an import duty of 5% on the net value, plus 20% VAT. The unit cost of a USA spec machine is much lower as the manufacturer has a much larger order quantity to drive costs down through build efficiency. The UK market is very small in comparison, so the order quantity is low and the build cost is alway higher.
