Fine product

I feel the need to review this given the other reviews here. I nearly didn’t buy it because of them. Glad I did though because it works just fine. I use mine on a thick bahco scraper without issue and I have experienced none of the issues described in the other reviews. Right enough the kirscher sticker is not the nicest feature but it’s a respected make and doesn’t offend me! If you get the same product as I have been delivered you’ll not regret your purchase.

Kirschen Burnisher - Excellent!

Reading some of the reviews, I wonder if I have bought the same product! What do you want a burnisher to do? I agree with the positive reviews, it does exactly what it should do, and is excellent value for money.

Not hard enough

Most of my scrapers are harder than this burnisher! Maybe a bad batch? I would buy a carbide one.

Top value burnisher that works well

I only submitted this review because of the very negative reviews below. I needed to burnish some curved scrapers and my Veritas adjustable burnisher which I have used for many years on straight card scrapers didn't work well on curved ones. Despite the poor reviews I decided to buy the product as Kirschen makes some good chisels. The burnisher easily put a hook on all the scrapers I tried it on including some Veritas super-hard scrapers HRC 48-52. The burnisher rod was clearly harder than the scrapers. The rod has a slight satin finish as supplied and holds the softer scraper material that can be seen on the rod after use - perhaps that's what others were concerned about. I polished the rod with some compound on a leather wheel for a few minutes and there is now no trace of any scratches after subsequent usage. So if you are looking for a value round section burnisher I suggest you not be put off by the poor reviews. I gave it 4/5 for features and quality as the handle isn't shaped and has a fairly basic finish - but quite adequate (the label is still stuck on too!). Hope this helps others.

Great value & does the job perfectly

It's not often that this happens, but I felt compelled to write a review to balance some of the poor reviews. I don't know if there's been a duff batch but mine's a gem. Lovely smooth burnishing rod that works perfectly on my Veritas and Bahco scrapers. I do wonder if people saying that it's marked by the scrapers are actually seeing softer scraper material deposited on the harder burnishing rod. I'd also question how some of the reviewers are using the burnisher, you really don't need to apply that much pressure to turn a good edge on a scraper card.
The handle is fairly basic, and the 2 cherries sticker came off almost immediately, but really it's just a burnishing rod and it works fine.
