In Detail

The result of collaboration between Lie-Nielsen Toolworks and Kentucky Master Chair Maker Brian Boggs. The body and cap are solid bronze and the spokeshave is fitted with hickory handles. The sole is 25mm(1") wide, the blade a 50mm(2") x 3.2mm(1/8") piece of A2 tool steel. The curved base version has a base with a radius of 125mm(5") and is intended for use on concave surfaces. It is possible for the user to modify the sole for tighter radii.

I don't think you'll find a better spokeshave. I needed to smooth out some concave curves in rock-hard oak. Couldn't get anywhere with my trusty Stanley spokeshaves. The Lie Nielsen cut the oak like butter. Unbelievable and a joy to use.

Top quality

If you are in the market for a spokeshave, look no further.
These are much better finished than the veritas offering, and will not rust due to the bronze body.
Very easy to adjust with a small hammer, or by tapping on the bench (youtube if you're not sure).
I bought both the curved and flat versions but returned the flat as it is not needed - the curved does the work of both.
The curved sole is not a continuous radius - there is a flat section in the middle with the front and rear radiused, allowing it to work as both a flat shave and a curved one.
Bottom line - Buy it.
And then probably buy a whole load of other Lie-Nielsen stuff when you realise how good it is.

These spokeshaves are beautifully made, and can be used for hours. The handles sit perfectly and naturally in your hands and the tool has enough heft to eliminate chatter. One of my favourite hand tools.

Superb quality as you would expect and are a delight to use, both curved and flat base benefit from David Charlesworth's additional adjuster, described in detail in his books. Recommended quality spokeshave.
