In Detail

Tungsten carbide being much harder and more wear resistant than tool steel would seem the obvious choice as a scraper burnisher blade. Lie-Nielsen certainly considers TC to be the material of choice for their version. Their trademark curly maple handle has a flared brass ferrule to protect your fingers. The solid carbide rod itself is 100mm long and 6.35mm diameter. The rod is polished to give you smooth effortless controlled burnishing. As with all Lie-Nielsen tools it looks good and feels great, which is just as well as you are going to be using it for many years to come.

A good but expensive tool

Having read many mixed opinions about what to use as a burnisher to put a burr on a scraper I decided to go for the best option - one which actually never got a bad review : the Lie-nielsen. And I must say that its function is superb. No damage to the surface of the burnisher whatsoever after quite a few uses now. The burr on the scraper forms very quickly with this. Nothing to complain about except that, as all Lie-Nielsen tools are , it's bloody expensive, definitely for what it is in essence.

Does exactly what you need, for a price

Presented nicely in a cardboard box that it will be sure to live in for years to come, this burnisher does exactly what you need and puts a good hooked edge onto your cabinet scrapers. I had no trouble using it and found it very easy considering I had never performed this operation before. A good vice to hold the scraper is essential. Only down side is the cost, but it is a beautiful tool and feels incredibly well made and solid. I am confident it will be with me for a long time and hopefully pass on to my children some day!
