Don't buy vacuum hose

If you have a mirka deros, the vacuum hose for it will fit this with the attachment that comes with it to make the dust extraction port wider. Although the hose specific for this is thinner and lighter, so if you don't mind spending the money the 21mm hose is slightly better than the 27mm hose.

Amazing discovery

Yup, it really is dust-free. Didn't believe it could be, but it really is. Sanding comes to the living room :-)

I found myself having to keep telling myself to move my hand more, because I kept having the impression that I was using an electric sander, it's so smooth and slick to use. Abranet is an amazing invention. Well done Mirka!

Excellent 'no brainer' tool

Echoing the other reviews, this is an excellent and simple tool. I've been using this to sand interior woodwork for repainting and it's almost made this job a pleasure.

Using our domestic vacuum cleaner with the hose kit there's been no obvious dust left over, save for between the pads and block when you change grade.

What a relief

Whether or not you have trouble with saw dust from sanding you need this sanding block and hose. Together with the abranet mesh it is absolutely fantastic. This is one of those things that seems an unnecessary gimmick, especially since other abrassive are relatively inexpensive to purchase, until you try it. I used to dread sanding, it was my least enjoyed element of woodworking , now I just get on with it.
Even with the fine grades almost no sawdust is left on the surface of the work. The mesh really does last so you won't be constantly folding and unfolding a sheet of sandpaper or rewrapping it around a block. It is fast action too so just a few strokes really have a dramatic effect. I sanded a chest of drawers prior to the finishing and there was no dust on the floor or on me afterwards. Just took a single wipe of a cloth after the final grade to clean up before applyng a coat of the finish. Wish they would make a pad with a rounded face for sanding internal curves. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Why didn't I buy one sooner?

I have been using Abranet discs on my random orbit sander and for power sanding on my lathe for a couple of years and have been very pleased with them but for some reason I had been persevering with my old rubber hand block when hand sanding. Purely because it broke on the day before I was collecting an order from Axminster in Sittingbourne I decided to add an Abranet block to my basket, what a brilliant bit of kit. I am currently repainting the inside of my workshop and unlike my old method I no longer have to clean up with the fine dust extractor after sanding down any filling. Also I don't end up with a fine layer of dust in my cup of tea and I would imagine not in my lungs either! Any excess filler left in the pad after use can easily be knocked out so considerably extending their life. Highly recommended.
