In Detail

Osmo Top Oil is a strong, durable oil designed to enhance the natural beauty of wood on tables and kitchen worktops drying to a clear, matt finish. Based on natural waxes and oils, Osmo Top Oil does not peel, flake, crack or blister which allows for good performance in high humidity areas. It is a hard-wearing oil with excellent resistance to water, juices, wine, beer and fizzy drinks. It is quick and easy to apply with a cloth, roller or paint brush by applying two or three thin coats. No primer is required. The grain of the wood is enhanced once Osmo Top Oil has been applied and if the final finish is not shiny enough, buffing it with a cloth will create a sheen. As the natural oils and waxes penetrate deep into the surface they help to keep the wood supple, preventing it from getting dry and brittle thus reducing any movement.

Good so far...

Used this as you would on my solid beech kitchen worktops. Have never used it before, but it is lasting much better than any other dedicated worktop finish that I have used before. What was an annual, pre-Christmas weekend spent re-furbishing the worktops had no need to happen last year. The finish itself is silky smooth, having sanded to worktop using a DA sander with Mirka Abranet at 180g. Quick to dry at normal room temperature, with little odour. So, I have no idea how long the finish will last, but it's still good so far... Recommended.

Not highly impressed

It’s very thick & won’t go on smoothly, doesn’t flow out & all imperfections remain when it has dried. Leaves a rather ‘plasticky’ finish. Also, the second time I opened the tin the top had stuck fast & the entire fitting came out of the can.

Osmo reply
The Osmo TopOil is a high solid low solvent product which is designed to fill the grain. This may seem thicker than a traditional oil, due to the hardwaxs and lack of solvent.

This aids in Greater coverage and longer recoating intervals.

Please can you explain what the "imperfections" are from, is it the Product or your timber surface.

In regards to a "plasticy" finish, there are no polymers in the TopOil, only natural oils and waxes.
