In Detail

The Proxxon GE20 is a small engraving pantograph, suitable for nameplates, jewellery and other valuable objects. It can also be used with self-made stencils or commercially made templates (e.g. plants, animals or coats of arms). A maximum of 14 characters can be fastened in the guide bar or template holder. Template contours can be precisely followed by using the ball handled guide marker. During transfer, the lettering to be milled is scaled down to either a ratio of 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 or 5:1 by simply adjusting two screws. The workpiece is aligned and fixed on the movable guide block by means of clamping jaws (not supplied) or a vice. Supplied with two sets of letters from A to Z, hyphen, full stop and dash (a total of 52 pieces), three Allen keys: 1.5, 3.0 and 5.0mm as well as a 2.5mm HEX (ball head) screwdriver. A detailed instruction manual is also included.

Proxxon GE 20 Engraving Device

First of all kudos to Axminster for prompt attention and service. Everything I receive from them is posted same day as ordered and delivered the next day, this item was no exception. Not bad considering they are in Devon and I live in the very north of Scotland.

Having looked at a few far more expensive engraving machines the price of the Proxxon is very competitive, even with the addition of a Micromot Drill.

The GE 20 was easy to assemble and is manufactured from very sturdy material. All in all it looks a fine machine and i shall look forward to using it. And there's the rub, there are pieces missing. I wasn't sure about the need to order an engraving stylus as I thought one would be included. That didn't bother me so much as the complete lack of any clamps with which to hold any items for engraving. The GE20 is pictured clearly with clamps in the advertisement and whilst it is reasonable not to expect a Micromot Drill enclosed, I would have thought clamps were an integral part of the package. **Please note Axminster what you have in the photograph is not what you get in the box** I can't fault Axminster for this but it is mighty poor of Proxxon to lead you to the assumption that clamps are provided when they are not. These of course are provided as an accessory but at considerable cost.

All in all a good machine and well made but let down by a failure of Proxxon to include items in the box that should be an integral part of the machine.
