I bought this to cut carbon fibre rods and tubes.
It works absolutely perfectly, the cut is clean and square, and the stop allows identical parts to be cut accurately.
I've used it for 1mm rod up to 20mm tube - works great.
The problem some reviewers are having is down to using the wrong blade, cutting Delrin or ali needs a toothed blade, not a grinding blade.
Use it for the purpose intended and it's perfect.

4,5 stars

I have both, KGS 80 and KG 50. I use KG 50 for small diameter brass rods 1 - 5mm. I try cut 2mm rod on KGS 80 but ripped out it from vice because is too small for v-cut in vice jaws. So i bought KG 50 - counter to KGS 80 is very quiet. For brass cutting i use proxxon saw blade NO28 020. It cuts fast and clean. If you want save money dont buy KG 50 instead KGS 80 - each have their purpose.
Only one thing mind me - vice, little backlash causes that rod is little bit tilted, but can be done by underlaying space between jaw and rotating table.
sorry for my english :)

ok for wood and plastic

I have one, used the metal blade from the chop saw. Goes thro wood and plastic ok. Fibre blade ok for del size tubes and bar.

Terrible. Just terrible.

Barely a step up from something in a kids toolbox playset to be honest. I bought it because it looked very useful for series cutting of delrin rods but even on 7mm diameter plastics the cut is painfully slow and the results not terribly good. If there's one positive it's that it is very quiet but that's hardly surprising when the motor has all the grunt and power of an asthmatic hamster. I expected more from Proxxon.

Strongest recommendation to avoid. Don't waste your money.

KG50: good for cutting nails?

I needed something to cut aluminum bars (12mm) and didn't want to spend €200 for the KGS80... the specs of this one looked promising so I ordered it. Got it this morning, put the "blade" on and tried cutting the bar.
Wel... the motor is ridiculous, the little saw chatters a lot and you'll need FIVE MINUTES to cut a 12mm aluminum bar. It's not a cut-off saw, it's a toy powerful enough to cut the arms of your Big JIm or Barbie, not much more. If you have to cut plastic or very thin metal pieces it COULD do the job, though. The cut is pretty decent, square... the idea of the rotating vise is nice and the jig for "series cutting" is good too but really, this thing is too small and the motor is weakest. So my advice is: save your money and get the KGS80, should be decent.
